So we had the telephone consult today, hoping to find out if Kevin would be going to Cambridge for the rest of the assessment. The consultant had some concern over a “chalky” main artery that should have been reviewed by a surgeon and hadn’t for which he apologised. He said they would get a surgeons opinion and we would hear back on Friday.
This is agonising and Kevin is now convinced he wonders make the list. There is little I can say. What will they do if the surgeon says surgery not an option?

The reality of the situation is that they need to be sure that Kevin will be ‘well enough’ to get through the surgery. His heart will be closely monitored and if, at this point, they are reviewing further details, these haven’t been carried out yet. With Covid, there are lots of delays.
Hopefully you will get the thumbs up but failing that, they may decide to carry out further investigations.
At one point, I went for surgery to put a monitor in my heart.
It’s definitely a rollercoaster of emotions but they will do everything possible for the transplant to happen. I have my fingers crossed for good news on Friday.
Hi my understanding is it’s yes no or wait. A no would be alcohol in system. At worst they may want to revisit if it’s deemed an issue. Hang in keep fit and be patient
It is actually slightly more complicated than a simple yes or no. Even before the assessment, you need 6 months proven abstinence to even make the assessment, after that you will be removed from the list forever if there is the slightest trace of alcohol in your system. So you need to avoid alcohol in cooking, mouthwash etc.
Quite often a listing maybe delayed, whilst further investigations are carried out.
I understand but the way it was explained that due to the condition of the artery the surgeon may not be able to join the pipes up. From that I am taking it to mean if the surgeon feels that the artery is in too poor a condition then transplant isn’t possible. Unless there is something they can do to improve it? x
I see that would be an issue stick with the medics on this My thoughts are with you x

TT puts it very well.
I know they took at any risk very carefully. Lets hope that being aware just means they can take every thing into account, and the transplant gets the go ahead.
While waiting I had a few scares, about my health its a constant worry
