Upper quadrant pain despite good results

Hi Everyone,

I am sorry for a long post but I am just trying to give a full picture of my condition.

For around last 4 years I suffer from upper right abdominal pain. This was checked on ultrasounds on few occasions and MRCP scan was also done. All they could ever find is small haemangioma on the left lobe of the liver and tiny outpouching in the gallbladder but no signs of any gallstones. I was clearly told that haemangioma and outpouching should not cause any pain.

I had also an endoscopy to rule out everything else and the results showed helical back to pylori gastritis with lymphoid aggregates. I finished second round of antibiotics (looks like this is really nasty bacteria, who is not bothered by anything). Now I need to wait one month before doing antigen test again. What worries me is that my doctor said that helicobacter should not cause any pain. For now, they are determined to eradicate helicobacter and then do endoscopy again.

I am really loosing my mind, this is not unbearable pain but it's with me almost every day. I feel constant squeezing/pressing/poking in the front or in the shoulder area on the back. Sometimes the pain goes slightly to the centre of the abdomen (stomach area). I also realised that pain might be more likely to intensify after eating something fried or barbecued (since treating helicobacter, my diet changed to very light one but still pain would be there, maybe just a bit less annoying). I am worried that maybe something serious is happening but tests don't pick it up yet.

Just to add, I am 33 years old female, very occasional drinker (two glasses of wine per year for the last 10 years), diet wasn't the best but I don't consider it the worst.

Did anyone had similar pains and finally managed to find a cause of a problem? or anyone suffering with helicobacter pylori, which was linked to a liver pain?

Thank you.

I also have a hemangioma diagnosed recently. I find it very odd that your doctor has said that H Pylori does not cause pain, that’s rubbish!!

I had severe pain and my gastologist suspected either gallstones or H pylori and told me direct that H Pylori could cause the Permanent pain I was in. In fact if you google it pain is the main symptoms!.

I’d ask another opinion re that.

Hi Pamziepam

Thanks for reply.

I was also quite sure that Helicobacter could cause pain, especially if already made some damage in the stomach. Maybe what the doctor meant is that usually bacteria does not hurt (they say that quite big population has helicobacter but is asymptomatic). I really don't know but I hope all pains will go once the bacteria is eradicated otherwise I will still have no answer.

What was your final diagnose back then? Was is also helicobacter?

I’ve just read your post. Could you remind me how and when this began. The reason I ask is that I remember many years ago I had an infection called something like what you describe and I was very very ill for quite a while. Now, at 71 I’m having severe liver and other health issues!!! I’m just putting 2 and 2 together, which makes me very curious????

Hi Splogde60

My pain started just one random morning when I felt pinching sensation in the liver area. It did not last very long and I forgot about it for a while but then the pain would be coming back more and more frequently, it was just different kind of pain (squeezing/pressing). It took quite a while to diagnose Helicobacter Pylori as all this time doctors would be checking my liver, gallblader, pancreas. As a last resort they have done endoscopy and found bacteria there with some changes to the lining of the stomach. It was very surprising to me as I would never complain about direct stomach pains, no heartburns etc.

If you ever had Helicobacter Pylori infection, you might want to ask your doctor to refer you for an antigen test if you think your health problems might be linked to it.

Hi Bomieh

Just reading your post from 9 months ago…

Iam going through a similar symptoms, I was told about 10 years ago I have a smalhaemangioma on my liver which was benign , I’ve been having real pain in my right shoulder blade since Christmas, now the last few month really feeling uncomfortable under my rib cage in middle, which has gone around to right side , had bloods checked all ok, GP sent me for ultrasound on pancreas, gallblader liver and kidneys…all ok except for haemangioma showed up 6 cm , who ever checked reported said I t’s benign and shouldn’t cause me any pain , they will give me another scan in a years time to see if got bigger….

GP now sending me for endoscopy , Iam now wondering if Iam suffering with the same as you …not sure how long I will wait for test , probably a few months the way things are going with NHS.

Was just wondering how you are doing now? Hopefully well….

Sue
