Had my fibroscan today. Was kind of hoping that would give me some peace of mind and closure but sadly not. Showed 12 kPa. The consultant did however feel this was an overestimation due to inflammation and recent alcohol consumption etc.
He is going to arrange for me to have a liver biopsy in the next few weeks to see if there is any scarring.
Due to my age and high ALT (normally 300-400) he said he was a little concerned about autoimmune hepatitis but that the biopsy would show more.

It is probably therefore a good idea to give up drinking. At your age, it’s definitely possible that you can improve things. But please, follow the guidance that you will receive from the doctors, regardless of the cause.
Good luck with the biopsy, whilst uncomfortable, it is a relatively simple procedure.
