I'm awaiting a gp appointment to discuss alcohol use (averaging maybe half a bottle of wine a night with one day 'off' a week, maybe little more in mid twenties). I'm in mid thirties and have had that pattern for about 12 years, with the few years before up and down (probably more bingey at weekends/when meeting friends but with more 'off days).
However, when I was pregnant 5ish years ago, I stopped completely. I'm so anxious about finding out I've got cirrhosis (got a bit if a sore patch under right ribs, but then I have been poking them more! I'm also feeling sick a lot but could be anxiety related) I'm wondering if that 9 months off drinking 5 years ago could have helped my liver heal in the interim? Know only the official tests can know for sure but whilst I'm waiting, I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts please?

Thanks for your reply - I have anxiety and admit I used wine to relax. I've only had 1 drink in the last 2.5 weeks and hoping to continue on that sort of a path now (maybe giving up completely). Just worried about the damage I may have already caused as I didn't keep track of it over the years as much as I should
You know wine causes anxiety do you? Well done for cutting down but for your mental well being and your future liver health it would be very beneficial to give up completely.
