Fibroscan testing : Hope everyone is... - British Liver Trust
Fibroscan testing
Fibroscans are used routinely in the NHS and are an important diagnostic tool.
They should be used in conjunction with imaging tests, blood tests and other medical investigations to help make a diagnosis.
You may find our publication Liver disease tests explained useful to read:
I wonder why they keep repeating your fibroscans when you already have a confirmed diagnosis of cirrhosis. Ok you might see some marginal improvement in your fibroscan but the cirrhosis isn't going away from the degree of damage you already have (based on previous symptoms you've described). My hubby has never had one in 8 years because his consultant has said it would add absolutely nothing to his diagnosis as we already know he has cirrhosis and it isn't going to go away.
Hubby just has 6 monthly ultrasound scans to monitor his liver and bloods plus an annual endoscopy and that's as far as his monitoring goes just now.

My consultant also said theres no point in repeating fibroscans.
They are used for diagnosis only and not for surveillance.
He said theres no point in chasing numbers, you have cirrhosis and that will never change and treatment/advice will now be the same whatever the kpa is.
I know what you’re saying Roy1955 I was told at first fibroscan it was advanced cirrhosis and at the second, trouble is the Consultants are the ones you rely on so when you’re sent a letter for a scan you can’t ignore it cheers for your input I will be asking a lot more questions next time.
