Hiya all you fabulousss people down my phone π thank you so much for the good luck msgs x
I went for the fibroscan yesterday altho the lady said it wasn't a fibroscan but something similar (she couldn't remember what it was called) & that she's checking for the function of all my upper organs ....liver,kidneys,spleen etc
Has anyone heard of this "scan"?? i had to do a lot of breathing in and out & stop breathing & it hurt π’
She did say she couldn't see anything to worry about but wouldn't give me any results/numbers as she said "they wouldn't make sense on their own"
Non the wiser & confused!! ???

Morning @gorgeous π! I had the same happen to me a few weeks ago. 3 months post transplant , presumed it was my fibroscan but it wasnβt. I had, and I canβt remover, the same type of ultrasound as, perhaps, you did? Remember that a fibroscan is graded 1 - 4 and we only need 15% liver function to live, alkedgedly, donβt quote me. Phone the hospital you had it performed at and ask them the name of the procedure and then google it! Off to gym, yoga and then more porridge! βave a good βen! xxxπππ x
Sounds like an MRI scan some of them you don't have to go into the machine to have you can just go into a polo mint looking tube was it that or just the scan where she puts gel on you to look ?
Yes just the gel on babe but it seemed more invasive than a liver ultrasound (I've had plenty of them x)
All this breathing I an out and stop was very strict ,in fact I breathed out at the wrong time or didn't stop & she shouted ha I don't think she got the right pic x
She did warn me to be immensely still & not to move a inch tho babe x
But take the positive that nothing has been flagged up as I find that the radiologist are usually up front they have always been honest with me whichever hospital I had it done at π
It will have been a full abdominal ultrasound. This is what I had, lots of breathing in and out, and holding breath. Takes a while and it's quite uncomfortable as they use a fair bit of pressure with the scope thingy.
It sounds like a full abdominal ultrasound that checks kidneys, liver, pancreas etc. I've had loads and I find them painful aswell, they really dig in. X
The last abdo scan I had was really quite painful. I do have fibromyalgia though which causes pain all over the body so that didn't help. She really pushed the scan thingy into my left side and I told her it was really sore and what was she looking at? She said it was the spleen which I know is enlarged and has varices.
Exactly as Porphyriamaniac says...full abdominal ultrasound takes twice as long as just a liver U.S much more holding of breath etc to get a clearer view of all associated organs. Cx
Oh that's good to know & makes sense as it's supposed to be my final one then discharge #fingerscrossed π€
Cheers honey x

From what I can remember the breathing in is to try and get a better picture. A lot of us have a lot of gas inside us which makes it difficult to see the organs they are trying to look at and whilst we breathe in, they can try to move the gas out of the way. I did ask once and this was what I was told. This is also the reason why you are asked to fast first. Eating generates gas (hence also no chewing gum) and makes the u/s scan difficult to do. Hope that helps.
