Had a fibroscan and not sure how to interpret results. Can anyone tell me what they mean?
The median average of the 10 readings was 4.1KPa
The Interquartile Range (IQR) was 0.7
The interquartile range divided by the median is 17%
Thanks very much x

Your score of 4.1 kPa puts you in the healthy F1 category (2.5 to 7 kPa) meaning mild or no fibrosis. I'm guessing that only a new born baby or a child would score in the F0 category of 0 to 2.5 kPa.
The mid-point of the healthy F1 category (2.5 to 7 kPa) that you are in is 4.25 so your score of 4.1 kPa is below the mid-point which is very good. Given the epidemic of fatty liver in western countries due to people being overweight and eating a poor diet your score is very good. I'm guessing that people with fatty liver would score above 5 kPa. I have a neighbour who is significantly overweight who scored 5.3 kPa on a FibroScan 7 years ago and he's put on a lot of weight since then so I've advised him to get another FibroScan done. It wouldn't surprise me if he scored significantly higher given how much weight he's put on and how huge his belly is!
Your Interquartile Range of 0.7 means that the middle 50% of the 10 readings around your median score of 4.1 kPa fell in a range between 3.75 and 4.45. A narrow spread of scores like this is what you want to see because it means that the stiffness of your liver is uniform rather than irregular. The 17% figure for the Interquartile Range divided by the median reflects the narrow spread of scores in the interquartile range around your median score of 4.1 kPa. A score of 25% or less for the interquartile range divided by the median is required for the FibroScan score to be considered accurate. Your 17% score is well below the minimum 25% required so your 4.1 kPa score would be regarded as being quite accurate.
The most important thing from the above analysis is that your 4.1 kPa score indicates that your liver is healthy with very mild or no fibrosis.
Wow thank you so much for that. You have put my mind at rest x
This is a good score for you that is be HAPPY anyday with.mine in excess of 30.9kpa
I drank a lot for many years. I have Terry’s nails though plus oedema in my stomach so still a bit confused.
Fibrotest came back normal too.
How are you getting on Mandy, just read your last post? So sorry for what you are going through x
The oedema in your stomach doesn't sound good. It may be ascites. You need to get that checked out. If you gave up drinking and haven't touched alcohol for a long time the FibroScan score could be inaccurate and misleading. A biopsy may be needed to determine the true health of your liver.
I’ve had a ct scan and mri and they came back normal. Also had ultrasound when I had oedema in my stomach a few weeks ago before i had my gallbladder out. They confirmed this after op too. They said there wasn’t any free flowing fluid in my cavity, so it’s must be in my tissues. Is acites in your cavity or tissues or both? I get confused with this.
Also I haven’t drank for 8 months now. I asked surgeon to do a liver biopsy before gallbladder and he wouldn’t as he said there was a risk of bleeding. I wanted it doing but he flatly refused.
Ascities builds up in cavity of pertonium. Have they looked at your kidney health?
Given all your results are clear MRI etc... I would say you are fine
Got appt with urology today. There’s something not right. Had blood in urine, also very pale stools, back pain, terrys nails and IRQ pain for a while now. Still pale stools after gallbladder op. Would they have picked up cirrhosis while removing my gallbladder? They said they had a quick look. Also private creatinine clearance test I had done was 52 ml/min. Was scared it could hepatorenal or something!
