Hi does anyone have any experience with Ischaemic Cholangiopathy following transplant?
Hubby had transplant in March but it’s not going too well and now this, they say it’s 50/50 that he’ll need a new transplant!
Thanks

Have they explained that this is one of the most common post transplant issues and leading causes of re-transplant? At Edinburgh where hubby goes about 5+% of all transplants they carry out each year are retransplant.
Obviously when they plumb the new liver in they have to construct and connect the bile duct from patient and donor liver and sometimes they don't match too great and it can cause strictures/blockages in the bile duct which is what the Ischaemic Cholangiopathy is. Sometimes it can be remedied by putting in a sort of stent which opens up the stricture but if that doesn't work or it causes too many issues (some people here have had the same issues as following a TIPSS procedure in that they have gotten HE again etc.) then they may need to re-transplant.
Pear-Shaped (who has recently resumed posting on the forum) has experience of going through this as her hubby had to be retransplanted a 2nd time and actually at one point it looked as though it would be 3 times. Her hubby suffered Ischaemic Cholangiopathy a few months after his first transplant.
Don't panic, hubbies surgical team will be keeping a close eye on things and if need be he will get listed again.
All the best, Katie x
Hi Katie, thanks for that. It's a bit of a shock as it all seemed to be going so well then this, we’ve not had much support as his TP happened a few days before lockdown so most appointments have been over the phone etc.
So we knew something was wrong whrr Ed n they asked to see him in actual clinic!
Best wishes M
