Just been told to stay at home and shield

Hi all, not posted for a while, hope we are all as well as can be expected, just had a call from NHS England asking how my shielding was going??? Didn't even have a letter or text, we went through a few questions and I was deemed as extremely vulnerable, I have cirrhosis a high bmi and suffer from hypertension, but to shield, can't even have my little cycle ride now, has anyone else had this issue? Am I being a little blasé or does anyone else think this is a little bit OTT?

I am surprised you didn't check the NHS . It listed the health issues that came in for shielding.

We didn't get a letter but looked it all up. Still received no letter but had a call from shielding ,as you have ,to check all ok

If you sign up on the nhs site you will get priority slots at supermarkets for deliveries , If necessary you can have a free food box delivered weekly via nhs site.

How have you been getting your shopping so far,surely you haven't been going yourself!

It is definitely not OTT. You get it and you could be a gonna!!!

Hi and thanks for the reply, I guess I was a bit blasé, unfortunately I have always been one for buriying my head in the sand somewhat, thinking can this really be happening, I will sign up at the NHS site, thanks for that as for food I have been ordering online, just lucky until now with the slots. You have been lucky to get slots. We had to rely on neighbours and i had to run the gauntlet ,initially, to shop as my hubby is post transplant.it was risky but all sorted now.

Pure fluke with the slots I think, I was only shopping every 10 days or so and kept things quite well stocked, a work colleague has been a life saver too dropping bits at my door, let's hope to regain some sort of normality soon, stay safe. Paul

Hi Pj,

I am in the shielded category and received a letter stating such from the government and my GP surgery.

It's certainly not over the top because we are in the category of having the highest risk of not making it if we get the virus.

You were lucky to get food delivery slots, the only way I eventually got one was by signing on the Govt site, they will also help you with getting prescriptions delivered by the way.

Last week was my first home delivery, up until then my son, who lives a few miles away, was able to pick me up a couple of click and collect orders and it wasn't easy to get those!

Three days after signing on the Govt site three supermarkets contacted me by email to say that they would give me a priority for delivery slots. I have been allotted a fortnightly delivery slot now with one supermarket until September.

So we can breathe easier now and just need to think well ahead for items like fresh milk etc.

Thought about getting a milkman Alf? Milk, bread, eggs etc. I've always had 1 and wouldnt want to be without him especially now ❣

Yes, I suppose it was down to price of goods that most rounds finished and

I can't see them starting up in villages again

I think milk rounds have been really boosted in the towns at the moment but if they started up in villages again then they would probably be used for the next few months and dropped again as soon as things were safe for everyone to shop again. So it's not worth anyone going to the trouble

Yes its sad. We are in a village. Years ago they came 6 days a week. He just comes Monday, Wednesday and Saturday these days but the milk is on the doorstep by 5am. 😀👍

Ours did the same round for 40 years and as you said 6 days a week, plus only two weeks off a year when we had a relief milkman. When cheaper milk and cream etc could be bought from supermarkets people were loyal and stayed with him.

As soon as he retired the new milkman's round started plummeting until it was no longer viable.

I have severe liver failure, I received a letter from my GP saying I didn’t need to shield! I have been shielding from the beginning and get a priority slot. I don’t know what my GP is doing, it’s obviously Not safe for me to go out! Stay home stay safe x

I'm really surprised that your letter from your GP said that. It's just not common sense leave alone medical sense.

Good job that you made the shielding decision for yourself.
