Frequent urination..

Hello, I have cirrhosis. I have been told by a lot of people on here to drink 3L of water a day.. that is fine on a day where I am working outside physically and using a lot of water.. however, if I am inside all day not doing much, I will pee crystal clear urine constantly if I keep drinking water throughout the day.. should I keep drinking it anyway and just keep peeing it out or drink less water?

Hi Tt

I think it’s fantastic when it is clear - keep on drinking at least 2.5 L whenever you can! That is what I was told both before and after my TP. I feel really guilty if I don’t even now, nineteen months post TP. And my wee tells me when I’m failing 😀.

I am not medical at all, I just do what I’m told 😀. A right goody goody two shoes, maybe, but when it comes to ME I’m a bit selfish like that 😀.

Good luck

Miles

3 litres seems an awful lot to be drinking and can actually cause issues with electrolyte balance if you are drinking and peeing too much.

Remember your fluid intake also includes hot and cold drinks and fluid in food - when hubby was in hospital on a strict fluid intake limit (he was restricted to 1.5 litres a day) they even counted his yoghurts and such like.

May be reduce the amount you are drinking a little, if you are in UK it's not like you are replacing lots of sweat from being in a humid climate etc. I can't see where you've been advised by anyone on here about drinking 3 litres. There are hydration calculators on line that tell you how much you should ideally drink per lb of body weight.

Peeing clear or straw coloured is ideal, often in cirrhosis the issue goes the other way - too dark.

Hi,

It is really positive that you are trying to look after yourself and mindful of your lifestyle.

We would suggest that you run this query past your own doctor as they will be best placed to advise on fluid intake and amount.

Best wishes.
