I just have to ask how people find energy to take on exercise....

Before diagnosis on 2011 I was a regular gym goer plus swimming twice per week ( love swimming). The day I was taken for a lovely 6 week holiday in to hospital I had been to the gym and done my weekly pump class. I did it but felt so tired afterwards.

Anyway, how do you who exercise find the strength and extra energy to do it. I know that I have barely enough energy or strength to do every day things let alone go out jogging or to the gym.

I am happy for those who can still manage their fitness. I must say that I miss going to the gym and swimming and aim to get back when this house arrest is over but, I would not want to get locked into a gym membership to waste money because I couldn't attend.

I do have an allotment and I do everything by hand, but it's not the same as the gym or swimming. I have never been a runner and wouldn't be.

I have become overweight because of the steroids and because I have had to give up my job I currently hate how I look and if I didn't know it was me, the person I see in the mirror would be a complete stranger.

All information is very welcome.

Take care and don't let the house arrest get you down xx

Hiya lovely. First of all, don't be so hard on yourself. I was where you are. Why not start by walking. If you have favourite music, put some on. Or just enjoy the sounds around you. Dance! Kitchen, living room. There are loads of YouTube exercise classes you can do, regardless of how fit you are.

The person you see in the mirror doesn't matter, just do it for yourself.

Take care honey

🥰xx

Hi Alley. I would recommend you walk. Don't focus on speed or distance to start with just a stroll for say 20 minutes once a day to start with or maybe twice ? The weather is a godsend at the moment .. it's our saving grace amongst all this madness so make the most of it and get out there. I think its also important not to focus on what you used to be able to do, focus more on how your walking can progress from a short stroll to a longer walk to a power walk further down the line. You don't want to push yourself too hard at 1st as you will get home feeling so knackered it will put you off doing it again. You want to come home feeling up beat, good about yourself for your achievement and reward yourself with a cuppa in the garden to get your breath back and ready to continue with some time in your allotment. I used to be a dance and fitness instructor so if l can help in anyway to keep focused and enjoy exercising please feel free to message me. Good luck

I actually used to go to a salsa class but the place shut down...walking and swimming are my way forward. There is a group of ladies who go on local walks, and they invited me to join them just before this house arrest started. I think I will join them.

In the meantime walking once per day even if it's only to my local park and back might be a good start xxx

Ps Kathy Smith does a Dvd called indoor working workout which is also a bit dancy and you can use light handweights with it too if you like and its perfect when the weather is bad. It lasts 30 mins and there are some stretch exercises to follow

In normal times I attend a weeklyTai Chi Qigong class. It's great for gentle, calming exercise and you can do it anywhere. - your own living room is fine. There are plenty of on-line lessons - just Google Tai Chi. It's excellent for toning up all your muscles GENTLY and keeps the body supple.

Hi Alley

I think you and I have chatted before about our obsession for the gym/swimming and must say I can truly relate to how your feeling since this isolation. I'm missing the buzz of being there and no matter what I do nothing is replacing that hunger!

Like others have suggested walking dancing , step ups etc I'm doing . I've also taken to down loading a variety of music onto my phone and with tiny earphones I find I can dance or just do steps in the house which can burn off lots of calories spread out through the day!

I'm sorry your fighting against the dreaded steroids but I have heard that your weight should level out eventually allowing you to slowly loose the gained weight again. 🤔Anyway if you do like music try some gentle exercise or dance, it wont replace the gym but it's better than nothing, maybe when your well enough you could cycle!

Sending you some determination to hang on in there 😉👍

Trish!

PS

Madness in the making.... My incentive which has always worked for me are photo's! Yes you may think 'What' ...I have photo's of Twiggy who's similar in age to my self and my inspiration in life. Her photo's are taped around my kitchen for the next 3 months as a reminder to get slimmer and fitter ! It was just a thought you may have someone you look up too!

Edited earlier midnight message ...lots of mistakes 👎

Miles your slipping ...😂

Do you honestly think I didn’t see them lmao. It’s just the new kind me (hahahahaha) who is letting you off until we are de-isolated - then the normal editorial process resumes 😀👍.

Ha! Ha! Miles! I quiet like the editorial side 🤓too as you keep me from slacking!
