Is red meat totally out of the picture?

Our diet usually consists of two fish meals, two chicken, pork or turkey meals, two meatless meals and one beef meal in a week. Is it really necessary to eliminate the beef when you have cirrhosis?

If you have symptoms of Hepatic Encephalopathy then red meat can contribute to that because it can increase ammonia levels. My hubby has cirrhosis (now diagnosed for 8 years) and he is still able to eat red meat - he has never been told to avoid it though I do know of others who found great success in reducing HE by leaving red meat out of their diet.

Well that's great news as ive been just diagnosed with cirrhosis and I thought the reason for no red meat was something to do with the liver and not HE , never had that or ascetics
