Hi

My question relates to the shielding and 12 week isolation, it seems alot of people including myself with AIH and on immune suppression have not received a text message or letter, I rang and spoke to my consultants secretary and she was not aware that we're on it, so are we supposed to shield or not? So confusing.

Hi Birty,

All hospitals have been asked to identify people on immuno-suppressive treatment for autoimmune hepatitis and they will receive a letter confirming that this has happened and you are registered with NHS England.

Your hepatologist will know about this, you may want to direct the medical secretary to this link, see below and ask to speak with the consultant

Best wishes

I've just heard back, according to my consultant I don't need a letter to shield unless I need one for my employer, I do need one for my employer so he is going to send me a letter.

Hi Birty, the majority of those on the AIH facebook page have all received letters regarding shielding. The .gov guidance specifically states "People on immunosuppression therapies sufficient to significantly increase risk of infection."

This was posted on there the other day (Hepatology Risk Groups) -

High Risk Group -`Shielded group`Advise mandatory self –isolation

- Patients having undergone liver transplantation and taking immunosuppression

- Patients with autoimmune hepatitis taking immunosuppression

Patients with Increased risk but no need for mandatory self -isolation / Do need to social distance.

- Patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis

Yes, I saw that, I haven't received anything and thought I'd better ask as my consultant's secretary didn't seem to know about it.
