Hi Rugby,

I hope you are doing well as can be expected. You are in the high risk category due to your liver disease, you should self isolate to the extent possible, only venturing out for food and medicine. Wash your hands regularly, avoid touching your face after touching hard surfaces when you do go out, use hand sanitizer when soap and water aren't convenient, and keep a safe distance between you and other people. If you can, keep up with the news, there is lots of information about the virus on this site as well. Good luck!

As a cirrhosis patient you are in the higher risk bracket who were advised to practice social distancing - which in effect we are all having to do now.

With cirrhosis only (if you are not on steroids or immune suppressants or receiving treatment for cancer) you are probably not in the most vulnerable group i.e. the 1.5 million who are getting NHS letters and being told to practice stringent 'shielding' measures.

The High Risk Bracket includes those who are:

- aged 70 or older (regardless of medical conditions)

- under 70 with an underlying health condition listed below (ie anyone instructed to get a flu jab as an adult each year on medical grounds):

- chronic (long-term) respiratory diseases, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema or bronchitis

- chronic heart disease, such as heart failure

- chronic kidney disease

- chronic liver disease, such as hepatitis

- chronic neurological conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), a learning disability or cerebral palsy

- diabetes

- problems with your spleen – for example, sickle cell disease or if you have had your spleen removed

- a weakened immune system as the result of conditions such as HIV and AIDS, or medicines such as steroid tablets or chemotherapy

- being seriously overweight (a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or above)

those who are pregnant.

The most vulnerable and the ones who are being told to practice stringent shielding (those who are receiving letters) are:-

People falling into this group are those who may be at particular risk due to complex health problems such as:

- people who have received an organ transplant and remain on ongoing immunosuppression medication

- people with cancer who are undergoing active chemotherapy or radiotherapy

- people with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia who are at any stage of treatment

- people with severe chest conditions such as cystic fibrosis or severe asthma (requiring hospital admissions or courses of steroid tablets)

- people with severe diseases of body systems, such as severe kidney disease (dialysis)

You only need to self isolate if you have symptoms of covid-19, you DO NEED to practice social distancing, you probably don't need to do the stringent shielding unless you get the letter from NHS.

Please see link below to the British Liver Trust information regarding COVID-19 and it has relevant links to NHS and government documents.

This will be updated as regularly as possible and is a good source of reliable information.

For specific information regarding your own condition, I would suggest you contact your own medical team.

Take care and very best wishes.

If you're at high risk, you will be contacted by the NHS by Sunday 29 March 2020. Do not contact your GP or healthcare team at this stage – wait to be contacted.

Time enough e🤞

Sorry you’re with me in the high risk group, if you don’t receive a letter by Sunday, you need to contact your GP or consultant to get the letter and go on the government at risk register, I have registered without a letter! Then they will be able to deliver meds and food and someone to talk to. You can’t go out even for a walk, if you have a garden you can go out there, sadly if you don’t have a garden then you have to stay in. Good Luck x
