I just popped into my chemist for Day or Night Nurse to ease my severe cold, and was told they are not suitable for high risk groups such as me with liver disease. Apparently they contain methanol (alcohol) I'm glad they were on the ball, I don't want to ruin my 2.5 years alcohol free, never mind what it would do to my poorly liver. I am now going to stay on paracetamol, and honey and lemon juice for my ailments.
So BE WARNED everyone, keep off these medications.

Hi David. I used to buy Day Nurse if I was suffering with a bad cold in the past. I had a cold a couple of months back and asked a chemist if I was able to take it post transplant. I told him what tablets I take and he said no, I shouldn't take it. He showed me a bottle of linctus that I could take for a cough. I decided to go down the honey and lemon route like you. Hope you're feeling better soon. Alf
Hi Lynne, I do check the possible effects of all my medications, but some of their warnings are just to cover themselves eg "could cause diarrhea or constipation" what's that all about!!!!! 🤣. This time the warning came from the pharmacist.
Sounds like our NyQuil here in the US. Husband's liver doctor told us flat out that he should not use it as there is so much alcohol in it. NyQuil couch has as much as 25% alcohol by volume. He did say mouthwash was okay because one is not supposed to drink it.
The joys of trying to be vigilant when you or a loved one has a disease or condition.
Wow Mary, 25%, that's dreadful. They sneak it in wherever they can. I only use non-alcohol mouthwash. After 2.5 years dry, I'm not going to let anything with alcohol anywhere near my mouth. I'll tell my daughter in Seattle when I next talk to her, not that she has any problems like mine, but just for info.
Get a children's version they are alcohol free. That is what I get for my hubby & it does the job
Hi David
Hope you've fully recovered from your nasty cold I've just picked up on. If not trying giving this ago! Add some Rosemsary to a cup then pour boiling water over and let infuse for about 5 minutes then drink, it's good for congestion! Colds are horrid things to have. I find soaking your feet in nice bowl of hot water with some peppermint oil can help towards relaxing your body when feeling shitty. If you want to go further a nice foot massage with peppermint foot cream from the Body Shop can make you feel more relaxed and warmer. However not everyone likes there feet messed with ! 😁
Many thanks Trish, yes I am recovering now ( felt like death warmed up 5 days ago) Paracetamol, & honey with lemon juice is working..... the old remedies are the best😊😊😊. As I am at home alone just now ( my wife is in Canada) I have been overdosing on hot curries ( made myself) which also helps, my taste buds if not my cold😁😁😁. I find keeping busy, and not letting it get the better of you also works for me. Mind you I will be scuppered with my outdoor work with the storms we've got coming😢😢😢. I might have to get my guitar out and have a blast 🎸🎸🎸, Watch out neighbours🤣🤣🤣
I like the old remedies especially your curry side of things 😂😂😂. I was going to say add hot water to some fresh chopped chillies but you've covered this track in another way! (Lol) 🥵🥵🥵
Guitar, that's another thing on my bucket list to learn! I'd like to be able to play some Donovan and John Denver songs! I did look into lessons in the 70's but got put off by only finding a tutor who could teach classical!! Hilarious really as I like classical music now amongst other types, mainly Jack Savoretti, Christina Perri, Queen, Christine and the Queens,, Sting but to name a few. I wanted to be another folk singer back in the 70's with my long blonde hair and hippy style clothes 😂😂😂! Silly dreams ......
I'm glad your keeping busy until the horrid rain shows its face again! I've just been doing a general tiding up outside ! I'm now debating on whether to cut the lawn before I collect my granddaughter from school this afternoon who's a sweetie!
Guess what I'm having a curry tonight with a friend who needs some cheering up, she has cancer with no cure which is very sad as she's adorable ! Yesterday my closest friend Sandie was diagnosed with Hodgkinson Disease and shes only 52! Life's a bitch dont you think sometimes!
Oh well my friend, take care of that cold, sorry to be morbid !
Hi Trish, I taught myself guitar in the the early 60's with Bert Weedon's "Play in a Day", it did take longer though. 😊😊 I used to play in a few bands then in Ealing Broadway in West London. The Ealing Club and the Blue Triangle Club. When I got married to my wife Annie, we started the dancing at our reception to John Denver's Annie's Song. With a friend we got a gig playing in a restaurant near Harrod's called "the Taming of the Stew" for £30 +beers every saturday night. We used to play Cat Stevens, Donovan, Don Mclean, Simon & Garfunkel, CSN&Y, and quite a few others.Of course we were both Hippies in those days, but never got to Woodstock 😢😢😢. We have had a spate of illnesses with friends and family recently. I lost my last Aunt just 2 weeks ago, and a friend 1 week ago, so know the sadness it causes. It's not being morbid, I have thought long and hard about mortality, and it holds no fear for me,
Aren't Grandkids a joy (most of the time 😁😁😁)
Take Care,
Lord Lou, aka David 🤣🤣🤣
Lord Lou! 😂😂😂 ! I'm so jealous that you've taught yourself to play the guitar and played music of all my favourite musicians from the 60's and also moved in the hippies circle! What amazing stories you could tell man! Lol!
Your wedding dance song is such a wonderful romantic memory for you and Annie! My ex husband was a great folk singer and use to sing to me alot in public when he sang in pubs, it was mainly Donovan,, Cat Steven's and some of the musicians you've already mentioned above! The 60's were great times 🤣.
So sorry to hear about the passing of your aunt and best friend which is sad news, please accept my deepest sympathy!
Oh well, Lord Lou 😂take care and say hi to Annie for me but dont give her your cold!
Hi Trish, The band formed in 1963 was "Lord Lou & the Nightwalkers" (really tacky name , but of the time🤢) We only played at a few school dances. I forgot to mention James Taylor, Carol King, and Yes..... just some of my heroes😁😁😁
