Hi all. I am permanently tired to the point of fatigue. I have also got permanent pain in major joints. G. P. Has told me my liver function is doing really well. Had blood tests as he thinks I might be anaemic. Waiting on results. Have been told I can't take iron tablets due to the damage they cause to the liver. Does anyone know what the alternatives are?
Possible anaemia. : Hi all. I am... - British Liver Trust
Possible anaemia.
You could try eating more iron rich foods (e.g. beef). That should be safe if it's done in moderation. Some cereals are fortified with iron but that's an unnatural way to get more iron. You should also take it easy to give your liver a chance to produce more blood while wait for the test result. If it confirms that you are anaemic you might be better off seeing a specialist to discuss why it happened and what to do. If you are anaemic taking a vitamin B complex capsule might be worth doing but get advice from a doctor first.
Hi, I have Cirrhosis and was told the tiredness was because I was anaemic. My specialist gave me a 3 month course of iron tablets. I don't feel so tired all the time! Hope this helps.

Thank you
Steak, liver, spinach. But I have been taking iron tablets too. My anaemia is definitely caused by the liver malfunction! Aarrgghh
