Hi, I'm after some advice of some kind I guess as I'm not sure what else to do?.I'm from the UK and 2017 I was admitted into hospital after right shoulder and upper quadrant pain which turned out to be a bleed in my liver of 8x9cm and after a week in hospital I was referred to a heptologist who then diagnosed me with a liver adenoma and changed the BC pill I was on. Continuous MRI scans and monitoring done since then as it reduced and has stayed at around 3.6x 3.4cm and so the specialist concluded in july 2019 that a resection would not be best as they now think the mass is just scar tissue following trauma. until recently end of August I was rushed into hospital after unbearable pain and extreme fatigue and being unwell. Ultrasound suggested a growth in the mass in my liver(4.3x3.66cm). Doctors are unsure and constantly reviewing my case in a DMT meeting. I'm so fed up on nothing happening and changing their diagnosis as I'm constantly in pain from the swelling of adenoma/liver on the capsule, easily fatigued and catch illnesses very quickly. No biopsy has been done either, I'm very confused about this all and not sure what else to do about this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated 😊

Liver adenoma?
Hi
I'm so sorry you are feeling so rotten. It seems they aren't doing anything to help you. You could go to pals as they will be able to sort an earlier appointment out and that you want answers about what is going on. It's no good them keep talking about what they might do!! Yes, a biopsy is a good thing to have as it does give you answers as to what is going on. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
PALS is a great suggestion from Lynne ( by that we mean Patient advice and liaison service ) they can act as an intermediary between you and the various other players. They have a good reputation for getting things done, and are generally respected by Doctors. You can usually find them via the main desk at most Hospitals, or go online for the phone number. In your position I,d try them. It would certainly make it harder for the Doctors to stall and fob you off. Best wishes.
Hi Jourdan, it is not uncommon to have benign tumours in the liver, I myself have a number of haemangiomas, which would only be problematic if they were to increase in size and cause pain. These are common in women because of female hormones. I'd imagine this is why they changed your pill, to ensure it wasn't growing due to hormones.
There may be a reason they don't want to do a biopsy if they can avoid it, as these things can be vascular and bleed quite considerably. I had a lesson in my pancreas and when it was biopsied it didn't stop bleeding. My husband was called in to see me in recovery, whilst they prepped me for going back to theatre. They gave me a blood transfusion and packed my abdomen. The next day I had the pack removed, so 3 general anesthetics in 24 hours, I spent 2 weeks in hospital, and had an abdominal haematoma that was so large it took months to be broken down.
The doctors may appear to be being vague, but I'm sure they are not wanting to put you at any risk, and sometimes watchful waiting is all they can do. Often it's the most sensible.
If you feel communication is not good, and you'd like more info then call the consultants secretary, explain your concerns and ask to be seen to discuss what they are planning.
Each of us need to advocate for ourselves, and if you aren't aware of your plan of care its the Dr's responsibility to ensure you have that info. I'd only go to pals once all other avenues have been tried.
Best wishes, and I hope they help you feel more reassured.
Take care

Hi Jourdan, since September 9th this year I know I have something on my liver.
First the doctors thought of cancer.
But biopt wasn't all that clear.
They then thought it could be cancer or adenomas.
I was sent to a specialistic centre, and today I learned that they are almost certain adenomas.
One large one, about the size of a tennisball, which seems to have been bleeding in the past.
And a couple of small ones too.
So for me this is all very new, and I am searching for more information.
At this moment I know there will be more scans, and almost certain an operation to remove the largest one.
I hope more people are going to react in this forum thread
I really want to now more about how it is to have adenomas, possible health issues (being tired??) etcetera.
I can't help you with doctors in the UK, I am from the Netherlands.
But we can discuss treatments, effects on daily live etcetera!
