My father, 64 years old, diagnosed with HCC 18 months ago and underwent TACE 3 times. HCC was stable and he was doing fine.
Since a month, he started coughing regularly and the plain CT yesterday showed multiple nodules in the lungs. But he doesn't have any pain in the chest region.
Although plain CT is not conclusive evidence of pulmonary metastases, I really am scared! We are scheduled to meet another doctor this Saturday and a possible PET scan.
Has anyone in the group faced this? And what treatment you have undergone? I really appreciate your replies.
Thank you!

Hi anantk. I had HCC and I had 2 sessions of TACE that held the tumours stable. I was on the TACE2 trial . I started on Sorafenib one month before my 1st TACE session. I had my second TACE session 2 months later. I was on Sonaferib for 3 years. Roughly 18 months after starting Sonaferib something was picked up on my lungs in a CT scan (I would have been 66 at the time) I was told that if it was cancer then I would have to come off the TACE2 trial. I asked what treatment was available if it was cancer in my lung and I was told that the treatment was actually Sonaferib. Whatever it was in my lungs that the CT scan picked up it turned out that it was not cancer and nothing ever came of it. I am now just over one year post transplant and doing well with no lung problems. Hoping that whatever was picked up on your fathers scan is, as in my case, nothing sinister. Very best wishes to you and your father. Alf
