Hi I would just like to know if any one else claims esa as I have been advised to look into this,I wondered if you are entitled to this with cirrhosis and varices as I know I could not keep a job at the moment due to the symptoms I am experiencing

Claiming esa
Hi, I have F4, and I have been claiming esa for over a year now.. you will just need to fill in the forms, and they will change your claim over. Depending on your symptoms, you may be able to claim PIP as well, but this will depend on how it affects you. The CAB (Citizens advice Beareau) will help you if you need it, and would advise using them if you are thinking of applying for PIP (personal Independence payment). You will start on £73 pw, and if your assesment (which will happen after a couple of months) you will be put in one of 2 groups, the work related activities group, which gives the basic £73, or the support group which pays more.. take a CAB advisor with you, and make sure they know your limitations first.
My hubby was diagnosed with cirrhosis after a massive variceal bleed in April 2012. We applied for ESA and without a face-to-face assessment he was awarded Income Related Employment and Support Allowance in the Support Group.
Check out the .gov page for ESA to see where you might be eligible and application procedures. ESA now forms part of Universal Credit (which I am not too experienced with). gov.uk/employment-support-a...
Before filling in any forms I would strongly urge you to get assistance from Citizen's Advice Bureau or your local council welfare rights team or sign up for the member guides from the Benefits and Work website - the latter has guides which take you through the process step by step providing advice as to how to fill forms in to maximise chance of getting an award. benefitsandwork.co.uk/
If you need help with care and daily living and/or mobility issues then you might also be eligible for Personal Independence Payment - hubby is on that too (enhanced daily living and basic rate mobility). gov.uk/pip
I must warn you DWP do not make it easy but it is possible.
Best wishes with it, Katie
Thanks for all your advice this will be my first claim and the advice helps as didn’t even know which one I am supposed to claim for I will get in touch with citizens advice also so thank you
Husband gets what they call virtual ESA, which pays his national insurance contributions & pension only. The reason for that is because I work more than 24hrs a week.
Could I ask how he claims this.I have given up working but haven't claimed anything as husbands income too much but I would like to protect state pension if possible.Thank you.
We had to fill out the ESA form & send in copies of medical evidance, so letters from doctors appointments, test results etc.. His renewal was while he was having his transplant last May, it's only now he is thinking about going back to work as he still gets tired easily, only going back part time to begin with as he is a chef & needs to ease back into the rat race
Great advice from the other forum members. Here is a link to the CAB website so you can see which is your nearest branch;
Good luck

Bluebel2 I don't know, but each time I have seen the title of your post I thought it says Calming Sea. I wondered how that could be a problem!! Luckily there's a number of people here who know what's what! Good luck with your claim. I hope you don't have to wait long to get it.
Hi . I was medically retired and was entitled to esa because of contributions i had made during working years. I went to citizens advice who explained it all to me and helped fill in forms. Well worth applying for.I also have cirrhosis
Please ensure you inform them of any changes to your circumstances- I went back to work 6 months after my transplant and didn’t tell them straight away - ended up having to refund £800 to them !!
