Blurred vision!

I feel like my vision is getting bad every day.

I got my vision tested twice in a year but was only given a small prescription for reading. It’s been couple of months since the last test and I find even reading the phone screen very blurry. Would this be anything to do with liver health? Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I have been on steroids for a while now.

Hello Hope, this is just a thought, and I maybe way off target. But with all things medical, investigations are used to rule out what it's not. Tests are then used to eliminate what it's not. I see from some of your previous posts, that you have cutdown on your sugar intake. Have you ever been check for type-2 diabetes?

I ask this as if the liver becomes scarred and cirrhotic, it can become insulin resistant. This then can cause diabetes. Those people who have diabetes need to undergo an annual eye test every year. This is a special test so that the ophthalmic optician can look at the back of the eye retina. I would first speak to your GP about this before just going for a normal eye test.

Thanks for your reply. A while back, maybe due to medication. I had episodes where my sugar levels will suddenly drop. I had no idea what was happening. However, what i found myself doing was stuffing myself up with juices, fizzy drinks chocolate or whatever I could find in that moment of time. It wasn’t very nice feeling. I felt as though I would just collapse. I went to see the Gp and he sent me for tests. They didn’t find anything. I was referred to endocrinologist, still nothing. I got a follow up with them.

Anyway, my symptoms stabilised I don’t have those episodes anymore. Even if I did feel something I stay away from high sugar intake etc.

I’ll speak to my GP let’s see what they say.

Ps I’ve reduced sugar intake voluntarily.

My near sighted vision became blurry and I developed light sensitivity after a mild case of A hep over 14 months ago and the problem still remains, seems to have stabilized but is not getting better, the way the liver metabolizes the vitamins needed by the eyes can cause vision issues

Update! I went to see my GP She said I should see the optician again. Even though, only had my eye test few months ago.

Also, she is sending me for a brain scan 🤔

The brain MRI scan can be very interesting looking at your results on screen afterwards - some days afterwards that is. If you don’t mind that sort of thing!

Hi, I had a rare reaction to my immune suppressants which cause VERY swollen optic nerves so my clinicians thought? After two CT, one MRI can and a lumba it was concluded that is suffered portal hypertension during transplant. I was given a large course of steroid and my optic nerves returned to normal.

My husband is wondering the same thing. He developed double vision quite suddenly a month ago.

We were in Chester at the time visiting family and I took him to the Countess of Chester Hospital. Because of his liver cancer history (resection in March for HCC with PVTT) they carried out a brain scan amongst the usual observations. Nothing untoward was found.

A trip to the opticians to see his ophthalmic specialist resulted in a diagnosis of muscle weakness and some expensive new lenses.

The glasses haven't made any difference and the eyesight is getting worse. We are in clinic in Birmingham for his months check up on Wednesday and I'm sure my husband will raise the subject.

Sorry to hear that, I know it’s really frustrating when you don’t have any answers. Would love to hear what the consultant says. I also have a follow up this Tuesday and definitely will ask my consultant too.
