Its just disgusting ive seen this type of thing too everywhere you go alcohol is promoted and facebook is terrible i saw some young people put a pic of a fridge on facebook packed full of beer and cider and people were bragging how long it would take to drink the lot . There was not one mention of liver damage people just dont understand the risks . And young ones need to be told early .

Utter madness .... appalling and senseless !

It's just marketing at the end of the day. We had it back in my childhood. We had sweet cigarettes, Joke cigarettes (these had talcum powder in them) we ever sweet rolling tobacco. You could buy Beer lollies and Cider Lollies.

Marketeers know that children want to emulate grownups, so will always find ways to exploit this. So for me, 60-years on nothings really changed.

in reply to

So you think it's ok then ??

in reply to

No I don't, I think its immoral.

in reply to

Ok, it's just when you said "it's just marketing at the end of the day" I thought you was not that bothered about it.

Oh gosh, yes. I had totally forgotten about those sweet cigarettes!

This makes me want to scream from the roof tops when I see this type of thing or childdren with there parents promoting alcohol on Facebook as if it's a cool thing to be doing!

Oh shropshire please don’t scream it’s not good for you!

Except you’re allowed to when launching yourself from that plane. Are you still allowed to do that now with your recent results?

Angus

in reply to ThreeSmiles

Hi Angus

I might do more than scream from the rafters if I see anymore photo's on FB of kids holding any kind of alcohol or adverts promoting kids to drink! Maybe chain myself to FB Headoffice railings so it hits the press as I'm really p......ed with it all !😡😡😡

Re! Sky dive question ..... this I cannot answer but I'm still focused to do the jump even though I'm scared shirtless! (No typing error or maybe it was .....)

Monday I found out my daughter in laws parents are flying over from Ireland to watch me jump and one of my forum followers is also coming to watch me jump so it's going to happen somehow !

Bye and have a pleasant bank hols

Hi c1jam, that is absolutely disgusting. I hope the shop owner gets an earful. I just replied to Kimlescam, about a similar topic. This is what I wrote:-

"I just read in our village newsletter, that the local microbrewery is staging a School Disco. What on earth were they thinking, with all the issues of kids drinking cheap cider in parks, in the news. I just despair of people's attitudes towards alcohol."

It sums up what you just said. I did write a complaint in the comments section, but received no reply.

David

in reply to davianne

Well done on you David writing the letter of complaint! I'm still up for a bit of chaining myself to some railings as long as I can get a catheter fitted 😅😅😅!

However I didnt mean this to come over as a joke but all the bloody alcohol adverts aimed at kids must be STOPPED somehow !

in reply to davianne

Anyway David on the serious point which you and Laura and others are trying to get across , it's still totally disgusting alcohol adverts on TShirts etc.....

Is there anything we can do?

davianne profile image
davianne in reply to

I'm afraid not Trish. Not where there's a profit to be made, and there are Pleb's stupid enough to buy them, thinking it's cool, sadly.

David

I can’t remember how or what caused the tobacco companies to stop with all of their BS advertising on Billboards, TV and just about everywhere else. The same thing should happen with the Booze. Tobacco was a huge money maker back in the 60s and 70s and they managed to stop that kind of advertising in the U.S. not sure about the UK.

in reply to Casinobo

I like your thinking Casionbo !

I think the uk started to realise how dangerous smoking was when people got affected by lung cancer an example of this was roy castle a famous person on tv when it was revealed he got cancer from other peoples smoking not by doing it himself he played a trumpet and people were smoking in the room so he got the horrible effects of the smoke .i personally think if somebody really famous in the public eye came down with liver disease caused through alcohol maybe some action maybe provoked then warnings might appear on bottles and tins . It seems so unfair people are buying poision not realising they can cause terrible harm to them selves i was in a supermarket the other day they had added an extra alcohol isle its shocking .the benefits would save the nhs millions of pounds if alcohol was controlled more and save millions of lives too.

Hello Countrywalks

Thank you for highlighting the story behind cigarettes and Roy Hoods death which I never knew.

I'm sure there must be some famous person /Rock Star who the public adore who's now suffering with liver problems due to alcohol that might help us kickoff somekind of public awareness similar to Roy Hood !,
