Scheduled for paracentesis tomorrow. What should I expect?

Hi all, I so find comfort in this forum and hope everyone is doing well.

I am going in for my first paracentesis procedure tomorrow. Actually looking forward to it in some ways as it will be nice to have relief from my ascites. Crossing fingers that this will be a first step to keeping the ascites at bay.

My doc implies it is easy and no big deal. Outpatient procedure at the hospital. They said there is no special prep required, not even fasting. They told me I will be able to drive myself home. My wonderful spouse is going with me anyway. He rocks. :-)

Was interested in hearing the experiences of others on this forum. Did you find the procedure easy? Scary? Recovery time?

Thanks in advance for any stories you are willing to share.

:-)

I had it done quite a few times - depends who does it depends on how it feels. Uncomfortable is the best way to describe it I think. Just relax and take a good book with you - the relief after is well worth it.

So my paracentesis went just fine today. The most ouchie thing was the first numbing shot. They drained 5 liters. Wow! I then had to have an albumin infusion. If they take more than 4 liters it is standard. That was fine as well. For all procedures they gave me warm blankets. A nice touch. I feel fine. Tired and a little "weird" but fine. We will see what tomorrow brings. Having "Lilly the Liver Baby", my name for the ascites, gone feels pretty good. Crossing fingers that it will last, but I know she can easily return.
