Hello all.

As I sit sweating in places I didn’t think a Glaswegian could sweat from I got an email from another Liver support site that are touting “max strength, previously only Available as prescription” milk thistle. usual marketing drivel and paid for reviews. But it got me thinking

I’m sure these questions are rhetorical and the response might well be “what does the doc say” but anyway.

Does anyone with cirrhosis take anything like Milk Thistle or Liv.52?

Before being diagnosed I took milk thistle and am certain it’s all a bit snake oil, and then I bought some liv.52 that says in black and white for pre-cirrhosis conditions only.

I don’t have any other issues that i’m Aware of, medications are losartin for blood pressure, o,eprazole for build up of acid and carvedilol. In fact I went to the docs today and my blood pressure is now at the lower end of normal; the irony.

So, what say you lovely people about supplements?

We've actually had members who have been told by their hepatologists NOT to touch milk thistle. Any evidence of its purported beneficial effects are none scientific and there are no proofs that it does any good and some hepatologists say it can actually cause harm.

The BLT has a page about complementary and alternative remedies at:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/li...

Hi Xeno, My wife Annie is Glaswegian, and yesterday went for an hour run, and then on the sunlounger reading for the rest of the day. Are all Glaswegians mad?🤣🤣🤣🤣

Katie is right about Milk Thistle, it can exacerbate cirrhosis. We had someone on here trying to sell a quack cure all, and the moderators took it down.

Pretty much. Were known as much for our stubbornness as we are our passive aggressive approach to almost anything.

Glasgow was a treat yesterday. Lots of odd coloured white / blue / lobster red people embracing the "taps aff" tradition.

You've pretty much described my Annie. She was a Matron before retirement, so you can add authoritarian to that. She's going to Glasgow in a couple of weeks to see relatives and friends, so keep your flack jacket to hand🤣🤣🤣🤣. She will bring home lorne sausage and Haggis for me.😋😋😋😋

We already have the sauce and lurpak, not sure if she will bring the rolls. We have a copy of Maw Broon's cookbook. I love the Glaswegian accent, and have Annie in stitches with my attempt of a Billy Connolly impersonation😁😁😁.(Billy is one of my few hero's of comedy) I did hear he's doing a new series for channel 4 I think on a trip around America.
