Wating for results

Hi all,

My gastro has told me he has sent the biopsy results to birmingham (they requested the biopsy) I imagine they'll be in contact via post for the results? I am a bit lost as what I do now. How did you get your results? Cheers!

Sorry,

I can’t help you with that one, I was in hospital and they told me after about 4 days. I am sure that it will be done in person. Good luck with them.

Hi, do you usually receive copies of outpatient clinic letters? If so you should automatically get sent any communications. If you don't contact your consultants secretary and ask to be sent any correspondence relating to your care. This is your right. You could also ask for a copy of the biopsy report. I've found if the Dr writes to you with results they can be quite selective in there choice of information they share. If you get the report you'll have all the facts and can then ask appropriate questions.

Wishing you good luck.

Hi ktan

QEHB hardly ever send me clinic outcomes! They do send letters though that take weeks - three? Or so to get to me. They said that’s it’s their system...hmm always thought they should do something about that but...

I was referred by my Consultant for an MRI scan about 5 weeks ago. Two weeks ago I rang his secretary to find out what was happening. She said ring the MRI department, they had put the request in! I rang MRI several times - either always busy or no answer. I’ve given up now and just waiting for the appointment letter ☹️.

Sorry to be so unhelpful ☹️

Hope you find out soon.

Hi,

you've not had a very good time for the last few months, so having to wait even longer for an answer must be really hard for you.

Myself and many others here have been where you are now, so I certainly understand how you feel. It would be easy to say try to forget about it and do other things to take your mind of the results, sadly I doubt if that would really work.

My only really helpful suggestion is that you could talk through what is happening to you with the British Liver Trust helpline. You would be talking with someone who completely understands your situation from the point of view of a highly qualified and experienced nurse in hepatology. The line isn't open right now, but there will be someone available tomorrow after 10am.

Take care,

Hi ktan49

As Jim says, feel free to call the helpline and we can have a chat.

Best wishes

ktan49 - Wass71 gives good advice re contacting secretary of gastro to ask for the report. I would e-mail this request. It often takes all day and more on the phone trying to speak to someone relevant. But an e-mail can be answered in their time and not waste yours. I have found this works for me. I hope it helps.

Thanks for reply ... I tried asking my hepatologist / gastro via email for my results but he said as the biopsy was organised by professor at QE bham I have to go through him... So I wonder if I can get an email address for him or his secretary

ktan49 - PiloMilo reports how long he waits for results. I don't know how long you have been waiting. But if it seems too long for you to wait, and only you know that, if you go to the web site and click on the contact "complaints/concerns" you can e-mail them. We know the clinics are over-busy and it is taking longer and longer to be looked after, but the PALS are able to follow matters up more quickly. Most of us don't want to complain/express concern. but look at it this way, it helps everyone, including the staff, when a concern is registered and not just held privately in a patient's head. I hope you have the result you hope for very soon.
