I year post transplant today!

Hey all,

Today I'm celebrating 1year post transplant and to be really honest theirs been only a couple of minor things physically to deal with. Emotionally it has been a bit of a ride but every day is a lot, not a little, better. Come September 12 I will also be celebrating 2 years of sobriety! So if any of you are recently transplanted then I'd say good luck and keep positive x

Hi Alf and I believe I’m not to far behind you lol. But it shows how we all benefit from each other’s experience by how staggered our transplants are.and reading other transplant survivors posts and how comforting they are to the just been operated on.paul

Hi Popel. This site has been a great help and comfort to me since transplant. I only wish I'd known about this site pre transplant. I can't imagine how transplantees coped in the early years of transplants with no internet to refer to and no sites like this. Once discharged from hospital, apart from their liver clinic appointments they must have felt very isolated, the same goes for those that were suffering pre transplant. How lucky we are nowadays to be able to converse with others that know what we are going through and who understand. :-) :-) Alf

Hi Leigh, we’re both really well thank you. My husband is 16 months PT and he’s doing great. Like you say every day is a lot better 😀. We take nothing for granted and really enjoy every moment. Never thought we would be back here after the pre transplant and early PT days. All the best to you and to everyone else on this site, good luck on your journeys. So grateful to the wonderful donors xx

Such good news PB - it is so uplifting to hear your story. It helps a great deal when things are not going so well. I know that it is still early for me - about 14 weeks PT - but to hear how well you are doing at a year give me great hope that all these issues will resolve and I’ll be as well as you.

Have a great evening and many more anniversaries - Peter

I do hope that whatever you're going through at the moment will soon pass. I know that it's cliche but you must, however low you feel, try to remember that your team are and will do all they can to ensure that they will do the very best can for you, as I'm sure that you do. 17 weeks is a milestone in itself so congratulations to you also 😀. I understand how very difficult it is to stay positive even after we've been transplanted, I've been there and it's scary. I, even today, suffer with the emotional side of it all. Please remember that everyone here is sincerely and genuinely rooting for you. Don't hesitate ever to use this great platform to ask as many questions as you want, have a moan or a rant! Also, don't hesitate to PM me if I can offer any support. Try to keep your chin up fella and take it one day at a time. I wish you the VERY best for the future.

Hello Poobear, how lovely to read your post. Congratulations. Double congratulations 2 years sober coming up as well. How proud you must be.

I am just 3 months post transplant.

However, I wanted to tell you I agree this site is great. It is so comforting to read other transplantees experiences.

I send lots of virtual hugs and huge, huge, CONGRATULATIONS!!

Hi there PB, so lovely to hear from you. I am here in London for the 2000th transplant celebrations. I think I am doing good. Sega Sega xx.

Worried about going in, as I don’t like crowds. However, I will be there.

Just another challenge! lol 😂

Have a great day.

I will certainly be banging on about how great this forum is, for us carers as well, I found great comfort pre t & we both find it helpful post t - it will soon be 7 months - missed out on being the 2000th by a couple of weeks 😂

Congratulations Poo, well done on your first year.I hope your steps back to full to health get bigger, as time goes by. I am nearly 3 years dry, but it looks like I will always remain on the other side of the transplant fence. I hope you enjoyed your holiday in Greece.

Thanks fella. Why aren't you listed?

davianne profile image
davianne in reply to Poobear69

Hi Poo, The doc told me that at my age (72) a transplant was "unlikely", but they do send by blood test results to Kings, to prove abstinence I presume. My liver is compensated just now, so I just have to be extra careful. My varices are small, so don't need banding, and at the moment I have no ascites, but do have all the other crap things that go with cirrhosis.

I am 3 years on 3rd September and now been back at work 16 months and driving 2 years with my licence back. Every day is a blessing to me that I still walk this earth and continue to do so until our maker calls me to his door.

Keep going, stay strong but one thing I will say is don't rush anything and take your time with life as a whole.

Congratulations Poobear!!! Hell of a bumpy ride I'll bet, but you've got your life back and there's no better motivation!! I know only too well that motivation is very hard to find in those early 'giving up' days, but the terrific support here from genuinely caring folk, is an enormous help, and being able to download to people who really do know what you're going through makes that journey a little less isolating. You've done really well 😘

Big hugs

Thank you for your lovely words and support 😀. In the scheme of it all I've done really well. It's just somedays I still get s little overwhelmed at what has happed in the past year. Being listed and getting the be call and being transplanted in 5 days was a little mind-blowing. I'm not complaining though bit I do like to have a rant now and then 🤔🙄!

Ranting now and then is allowed !! What you've been through is massive, and sometimes people "on the outside" can be less than understanding :)
