I've been asked to go in for a APC in the next few weeks, Dad anyone has this procedure before? What is it for? What is it like and it work?

Must admit i've never heard of it but just looked it up and it looks like a fairly new type of treatment for bleeding and changes in the gastrointestinal tract. It'll be done during an endoscopy and I wonder if it's to treat your varices and other stomach/oesophageal changes that were noticed during your earlier endoscopy. Before you have the procedure though make sure you ask exactly what it entails, what it's for and what benefits there are to you having it.

Someone recently posted on the AIH facebook page a Mnemonic for when you are facing an unfamiliar test or procedure.

BRAN - B - what are the BENEFITS ?

R - what are the RISKS ?

A - what are the ALTERNATIVES ?

N - what if I do NOTHING ?

Be involved and make sure you ask your medical team all the questions you want.

Hi I have had this APC treatment for my bleeding varacies done when I had my endoscopy.i opt for the sedation every time so you don’t feel uncomfortable.

I’ve just had another endoscopy APC was used on the gave watermelon area.

but my varacies are too small to band. But this new consultant at dumfries infirmary he listened.great sedation and my throat sprayed.i had a great sleep wonderful.
