Exophytic complex large liver cyst
Exophytic means the cyst is growing outwards from the surface of your liver. Liver cysts are explained in the following quote from 'Dr. Melissa Palmer's Guide To Hepatitis and Liver Disease':
"A cyst is an enclosed sac or cavity containing either air, fluid, or semisolid material. They are a relatively common finding in the liver and are usually solitary. Liver cysts are usually benign. Occasionally they are present at birth, but they are not inherited. They are most frequently found in the right lobe of the liver and are more common in women than in men.
Most liver cysts are asymptomatic. Thus, they are most commonly detected during the evaluation of unrelated problems. Right-sided abdominal pain or abdominal distention may occur when cysts exceed 5 centimeters in size. In rare cases a cyst may bleed, become infected, or become cancerous. If one of these complications occurs, a fever, abdominal pain, or elevated liver enzymes will typically be present. If a repeat radiologic imaging study reveals growth or change in the size of the cyst, close follow-up will be necessary, and needle aspiration or biopsy of the cyst should be considered. Cancer is diagnosed by aspiration of fluid from the cyst using a needle guided by a radiologic imaging study. "
Thanks , I appreciate you relying
I agree that the issue of exophytic is not so much of an issue in thstbit only means that it is growing beyond and outside the liver ( but attached) and itvin itself is not a source of concern. What IS potentially a source of concern is the use of the word “ complex”. A simple cyst is s fluid filled sac with no internal echoes on ultrasound or other structures within. A complex cyst however contains things other than just fluid including the possibility of nasties ie malignancy. A complex cyst requires more intensive imaging and potentially even biopsy to evaluate what exactly is “ complex” about the cyst. So. Get this sorted out. Exophytic not an issue but complex exophytic could well be an area of concern.
Good luck
