I had blood transfusions around 30 yrs was a social drinker never heavy, cured the hep c few years ago 3 w/Epculsa now living with cirrhosis, scary stuff. I recently had my ultra scan scared me I looked over saw my liver now I have night mares seeing it! I had lost weight about 27 pounds but have gained about 7 lbs back trying to lose 20 lbs not easy as I don't seem to have the energy or motivation I did when I lost the weight originally. Only been 6 or 7 months I quit going to gym due to depression along with finance set backs. Waiting to do upper gi for varices. I feel things have gotten worst dont recall my meld score but think it was a 7! I just wanted to let you know I'm here going through similar issues! I hate trying to get answers from doctors they all seem scared to say much. I have plenty to ask. But all in all I pushing along I've noticed my stomach is big never seems to go away! Have been getting waay to much chocolate so I am saying today NO MORE! I don't understand my addiction to sweets it's like I'm a rat.... really get so mad at myself wish I new a better way to break the sweet cravings! Of anyone has suggestions let me know! This Texas girl needs all the help and advise she can get! God Bless all of you I read more.than I post but know I'm here following and cheering you on. Prayers for speedy discoveries of on health cures for each of us!

Hi

There was a recent study that proved drinking three or more cups of coffee per day reduced scarring of the liver. I will try to get the link for you as it was televised (I am in Scotland) but the results were impressive

Hi Liver 3 I completely understand how you feel..I had high expectations when I got cured of Hep c 3yrs ago...I also have cirrhosis and although my virus is gone I still feel exhausted most of the time!

I guess maybe we expected everything to go back to normal but it seems it doesn't happen that way..cirrhosis itself is still there although possibly can get better in time!

I also have a sweet tooth and have struggled with trying to lose a stone or two to get back into shape!..I think it's hard to get motivated when you feel drained of energy most of the time!.

I'm trying to push myself a little harder by cutting out the sugar ect and walking more

Hoping that it will boost my energy levels!

Maybe make a plan to set some goals and try to keep them and it might make you feel better in yourself.

β€’ in reply toballie52

Hello ballie52

I've just read your message and cannot imagine exactly how your feeling but I do know how hard it is to drag yourself onto your feet to do the just a few steps to get motivated!

Can I ask do you have stairs in your home as you dont always have to leave your home to get motivated! You could just put some music on you may like and start with stepping up and down on the first step 10 times then have a wee break then don't again 10 times. If you did this on and off throughout the day you'd be burning of numerous calories!

Hopefully this note does not offend you as I'm not sure of your healths capabilities ! If your fit enough you could maybe pop to your local swimming pool! Lunchtimes are a great time to go as there normally quite until the school hols! Lol!

Your sweet tooth! Do you like spicy foods? I found adding more spicies to yogurts or a spoonful of mint sauce to a low fat yogurt was a great dip for chicken, salmon, carrots or whatever ! This removed the sweet tooth cravings.

I dont mind if you say the above was of no interest!

Good luck Trish

Hi Trish I'm actually not that bad..I love to walk and can get up and down stairs ect without any problems..for me it's my lack of energy that gets in the way! ..I'm constantly feeling exhausted all the time and although I can manage to get up and get things done it's so difficult with the way just simple tasks make me feel completely exhausted in a short space of time!

And yes I love spices and use a lot in my cooking..I would be fine if I could just get over this lack of energy..but thankfully at least I no longer have Hep c

Thanks Trish for your helpful advice!

PS Trish i still try and get out and about despite my lack of energy..my little dog motivates me Lol Xx

Hi Trish No I haven't lived in Scotland for over 30yrs..I still go up to vist my mum and the rest of my family!

I'm sure I'm familiar with some of your posts! I used the site on and off for the last 4yrs and found it a great source of information as well as support for people that go through liver disease .

I still recognise some of the same people that have been posting support on this site for many years and feel we are all grateful for having a forum that understands the issues we can come across in this journey!

Thanks for you and all the others that take the time to respond to the insecurities and problems we can go through with a liver condition.

Xx

You got that right! hope all is going well on your end. 1 thing for sure were survivors Fighting the fight

I feel blessed, I feel good most of the time never.think I'm sick. Not the case with many others! Reading your post how was the varices surgery? I feel sure I find out soon! Does it keep coming back?

Bootandall profile image
Bootandallβ€’ in reply toLiver3

Hey girl,

I'm not sure if you meant me, but I did not have varices surgery. I have mild varices (grade 0? grade 1?) and portal hypertensive gastropathy, which can lead to possible varices on the top of the stomach. So I'm on a beta blocker so hopefully they don't bleed. This medication slows down your heart rate and blood flow. My gp told me that assassins take them before a hit so they can control their reflexes better. Somehow that appealed to me lol. πŸ˜›πŸ˜€

Thanks for the update and correction. Who knows what I was reading it's usually very late when I get on line. Thanks again, I'll know more July 24th going to see Dr. Later, from Texas.

Its July 4th fireworks going and fur babies are a little.nervous to say the least calling it a night!

β€’ in reply toLiver3

Great to read your fighting the fight! I'm still fighting too but in two different ways!

I'm still in the early stages of possible PBC and yesterday/today has been a slightly crap start to my day with re ocurring symptoms which are logged for GP and consultant next visit. Further blood tests are on the monthly programme!

My second fight is to raise funds for 2 causes and I'm shite scared of heights πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰! So this I could say is my 3rd fight!!!

Take care my friend! I'm doing my best now in case things go south later!

Love to you all 😊😊😊😊

Hello Texas Girl

I'm lost for words as my babbling correspondence below was not helping you in any way which I apoligies for! Somehow I thought I was replying to some going banter re sky dive!

Firstly your a stronger person than you think you are!!! Please let this comment sink in!!! To loose 27lbs is totally awesome! The 7lb gained is not that bad as youve already proved you have the stammer to do it again, especially with my banter giving you the boost you need! 🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣.

I know depression and financial issues can make it tough to drag yourself out of this horrid rut! I'm an expert on finding ways to financially survive as I had to do just that for 8 years! I did cry at times but with two kids you fight for them!

I'm still trying to loose another 14 lbs which is slow going 😣 but if you want to join me in our (wee) fight PM and we can have a chat about replacing the chocolate with something else or just eating less in different ways as I'm great at think up foodie ideas which we could work around your health issues ! I'm no expert in this area of food but try to think up food ideas that may make your mouth water or ting a little !,

Take care my friend and maybe hear from you again Texas Girl!

Love Trish xxx

Loved it thank you! I'm pushing myself again. Getting back on that band wagon for sure. Yes 27/lbs was good seemed so much easier than mow 7 months since I hit the work-out world. But I know I can do it again a d stay with it. Meet some girls today considering weight loss surgery, not an option for me! Wish them luck... thanks for being there.

Bootandall profile image

I don't think you want that surgery, my guess is it would really be a nightmare with portal hypertension, but as in all things medical, they would weigh the pros and cons.

I'm starting to get out a little more, and park farther away so I have to walk.
