Tired can’t get out of my own way, any helpful hints

Hi all lately I have been so tired but wanting to do things but get tired. My cirrhosis is compensated. I thought by increasing my activity would help me. To gain stamina. The tiredness started about few weeks ago.

I was wondering what does everyone does to help with tiredness .

I did ask myself am I tired due to depression. But I dont think I am depressed.

Then maybe my hypothyroidism isnt in good level

But taking my pills.

I am also afraid to hop on the scale because I think I have gained a few pounds , as I am already obese but have lost 4 stone over past two years.

I see my liver doc in Aug and have my MRI,

I guess what I am asking is hints to get out of being tired and needing a nap . Or is it in my head. Thinking I need a nap .

Thanks sorry my post is all over the place

Hi Marydel63, I know exactly how your feeling ,it’s a vicious circle. I have a compensated liver and have the same symptoms, extreme tiredness , thyroid problem, weight gain. I have suffered from depression for many years but now I’m confused is it depression or tiredness?I was an outgoing person but unable to function properly. Been back to doctors for help with tiredness but nothing 🙁hope you get some answers love Kalsoom

My thighs ache so much I am glad I am not the only one, but wish we all didn’t have these symptoms. My youngest just turned 15 and helped me weed the garden.

Hi Mary

I get very tired and I’m also trying to loose weight. Tiredness is part of the liver disease. What I’m doing is just marginally upping my exercise when my body allows. For example I walk my dog. On a bad day I used to only manage a 10 minute walk, then home for a sleep. Now by upping the time by a couple of minutes here and there I can now manage a 30 minute walk and 5 minutes later in the day on my exercise bike. I still have to take naps as well but I try and keep them shorter and therefore I am starting to sleep better at night. The weight gain has really got me down though. Ever since my diagnosis I just kept gaining weight and trying to loose it when you’re tired a can’t exercise properly is hard. Take care x

Thank you I will add minutes to my exercise. So how long do you nap for? I could easily nap 2 hours . Just recently I started to set an alarm hourmark.

I nap for about an hour, maybe longer when I feel rubbish. It’s harder to sleep at night if I nap for too long. I like to crochet and knit and this relaxes me as well. Xx

Hello, Having not long been out of hospital totally relate to this and finding sleep difficult at night then just drop off randomly during the day. Not sure I have found the answer to my fatigue as it seems to come with the territory and liver disease. I have found setting an alarm for 10-15 minutes really helps and avoids me being out for hours. Certainly a walk no matter how short helps. Good luck.

Hi Mary, I don't think your tiredness is due to depression. I have been treated for depression in the past, and am not suffering depression now, but I too am constantly tired and aching all over a lot of the time. I have stage 4 cirrhosis, compensated, and just accept that my tiredness is part of my liver disease, but hard to cope with sometimes. That's why my replies to forum members posts are always in the mornings, as I go to bed at 8pm.

I wish there was an answer to it, but I have found that keeping busy (gardening etc), really has no effect on my tiredness either way.

David

Hi

I'm the same. I once nodded off in the chair with boiling hot coffee in my hand , burnt my leg badly, Dr at hospital couldn't believe the damage I'd done. I hurt all over due to the many conditions I have like all of you too. Love and hugs to you all Lynne xxxx

Hi Marydel,

Tiredness is pretty common with liver disease and cirrhosis and what you describe is probably similar to what many people on here have experienced. I know I did and I can confirm I'm not and was not depressed. What you are experiencing is very much a symptom of your liver disease.

How to manage it is a bit more difficult I'm afraid. Just do as much as you can and rest when you need to is all I could advise. However, do at least try and do stuff. Try not to just sit in a chair all day, irrespective of how very tempting that is to do.

I was fortunate in that I was still working right up to when I had the transplant. The necessity to get up and go to work was enough of an impetuous to get me going. Ok, I'd sleep, a lot, when I got home but it did at least keep me going. I also had a few kips during the day too, but only once did I sort of drop off at my desk. At least, only once when someone noticed 🤣🤣🤣. I think???

I have never replied before but now I have to I’m stage 4 and now I’m have to give in to the fact I can’t be the go getter I was before all this happened to me. I just can’t get out of my tiredness and being upset with myself for not going hard to get everything I set out to do that day done. I will have to take longer breaks. It’s the disease and not my lack of trying. So I will learn to live and not be upset with who I’m now compared to who I was then. I’m a extremely funny happy person. I plan on remaining that way, funny stupid and smiling no matter what!
