Hi there.I’m not qualified but your doctor obviously is so I believe your already questioning his advice by asking on here and just as I was told to stop.well I wasn’t told to stop I was told I had a slight cirrosis and totally ignored it and carried on drinking and subsequently went through a living hell and I’m not being melodramatic here as other members will no doubt tell you.anyway ended with me having a liver transplant 4 months ago and in hindsight wish someone had told me about the hell that I’ve put my partner and children through for years with this awful disease.please please listen to your doctor as he’s right you’ve got to stop drinking because if there’s any damage at all it can be reversed .i really wouldn’t wish liver cirrhosis on anyone.i do really wish well .paul

I'm currently going through the process of getting to the bottom of my liver pain, I've so far had a clear ultrasound and my bloods are considered excellent...yet I haven't had a drink in almost 3 weeks. I have got myself in a right state thinking that I've got cirrhosis and that's my own fault. I was drinking up to 6 rum and cokes mon-fri and more on a weekend for 2 years. I shall have a drink in 6 weeks time for my wedding day...2 glasses at the most and then I'm strongly considering going T total. Alcohol just doesn't seem worth the anxiety or worst case scenario...leaving my children for. Your life is worth more than the party xx

What you are asking really is can I carry on drinking? Yes you can, providing you realise that this Dr wants to save your life. Save you from suffering from a killer disease that is slow and you will suffer from some horrendous symptoms . We are not medically qualified but the DR is. There is a lot of help available to help you stop, but wanting to stop has to come from you. Hazelxx

Hi cream

If doctor asks you to stop alcohol completely it is irrelevant what we say about your GGT isn’t it?

As others say for you this should be straightforward if not seemingly palatable decision - doctor asks (advises in other words I suspect) you to stop drinking. There’s no other sensible decision but to stop drinking surely? I really wish someone had told (asked in your terminology) me to stop drinking much earlier than they did! It was too late for me please don’t make it too late for you.

This isn’t advice just another relayed personal experience....

Good luck in making the right decision.

Miles

Just to add, I'm not paying attention to my blood results at the moment. I have very real pain in either my liver or gallbladder. My GGT is 12!! If you know you've got damage, that should be enough.
