Does anyone on this site have cirrhosis from haemochromatosis?

I have been following all posts for the last few weeks and have never seen anything about it yet.

Hiya there is a couple, if you put in the search bar on the top of healthunlocked your condition it should come up with the posts with it mentioned 😊

The only thing I know is that it is iron overload

I think my wife did she did not drink a great deal about 1/4 bottle a day and only for about a year she also had all the things that happen to ladies with hemacromatosis and used to set off metal detectors at airports

That has never happened to my husband despite having a liver count of over 3000 and he doesn't drink.

You've maybe already seen it but the British Liver Trust has a page all about Haemochromatosis at:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/li...

We certainly do have members of the page who have the condition though not as many as for other conditions.

I had a look on Health Unlocked and were you aware there is a similar HU forum purely for the Haemochromatosis Society - you could join it too and perhaps get more relevant and knowledgeable advice from members there. healthunlocked.com/haemochr...

All the best to you both, Katie

Hi, I was diagnosed with cirrhosis last year, which was traced to me having haeemocromatosis. I've no symptoms, feel fine, and by regular venesections have reduced my ferritin level to under 250 from 2,200. On doctor's instructions, I've given up alcohol completely (not that I ever drank much anyway), lost two stones in weight (not that I was very overweight) and eat a healthy, low salt low carb diet. So fingers crossed, I've got a few years in me!

My husband had the disorder for 25 years before it was diagnosed. He has had many joint replacements and venesection weekly. Unfortunately it was too late and cirrhosis developed.

Hi beegeefan, I've not got haemochromatosis, my tests were negative, but I did a lot of research on it as I've a condition which makes me load iron and my treatment is also venesection to lower my iron levels. I found the healthunlocked site for haemochromatosis doesn't garner much response or traffic, the patient.info forum is much more helpful ans responsive patient.info/forums/discuss...

Also the haemochromatosis uk website haemochromatosis.org.uk/

Hope these help. X
