Dear Vincent,
I'm afraid no one on this forum is going to be able to answer your question as this is a forum for people with liver problems. Your pain relief is something your medical team should take very seriously so please do discuss it with them again and ask for referral to a pain clinic if you haven't been already.

I took opiate based prescribed painkillers for haemachromatosis induced arthritic pain for over 25 years. I developed a liver lesion which became malignant over time. My post liver resection pathology results indicated that my problem had been caused by either long term drug or alcohol use. As I’m teetotal, and in my life have never taken any other drug, I can only construe that co-codamol was to blame. The drug used to be available over the counter but became prescription only due to the side effects. I only wish I’d known!
Hello Vincent. I have had chronic pancreatitis for twenty years. I do not know what your pain medication restrictions are where you live. I take 4 to 5 pancreatic enzyme capsules with every meal no matter what it is, or how much fat it has in it. I even take a couple with snacks of any kind. But I have found over the years I can eat a certain thing one day and have no problems but eating the sane thing days later can bring on an attack. This is frustrating as there is no consistency when it comes to attacks. As far as pain medication goes, the only thing that works for me is morphine. I inject intramuscular as I find taking pills take to long and sometimes make the pain worse initially. With my pain I need immediate gratification and cant wait for the pill to start functioning. Intramuscular is not as fast as IV but works in like 10 to 15 minutes. Not comfortable sticking a needle in my vein, Intramuscular is easier and much safer, I use 10mg ampules. Sometimes one will do, sometimes I need two. At the time I am writing this letter to you I needed three. At this stage for me, I am 61 years old, mu dosage greatly varies. For me, morphine has given me a quality of life, and if I have to take it the rest of my life to function and enjoy the time I have left, then so be it. And its nice being able to do it at home. Although I always have some with me when I am away from home just in case, on vacations etc. For me it has been a life savor. Highly recommend. If you only use for pain, addiction is not an issue. Dependency is an issue but that is normal as I am dependent on it to function, work, etc, Tolerance will become an issue over time, but this to is normal. As I said, for me it has bee a GOD send. Pancreatic pain in my opinion is the worse pain on earth and at times would have preferred death. talk to your Doc. Good luck. Just joined here but keep me posted if you can. I am just getting used tonavigating here so if I do not respond please be patient. I will. Cheers
Thank you so much for your time in getting back to me. May I ask, are you American as I have not heard about the pain relief you are taking ?
Kindest regards (Denise) aka Vincent2004.
