Hi I had a transplant nearly 4 years ago. I have daily contact with my granddaughter who has just developed chicken pox spots. I am on immunosuppressive medication and know it might be too late but anyone any advice. I did have chicken pox as a child ! Thanks
Chicken pox : Hi I had a transplant... - British Liver Trust
Chicken pox
Having had chicken pox you will be harbouring the virus which can reappear as shingles.
Being on immunos will be a double for
High risk. Keep an eye out for a painful itchy rash usually around the chest. Get medical advice asap.
Shingles vac cannot be given to immunosuppressed patients which makes them high risk.
Good luck
Chicken pox is the one illness we have to avoid at all costs post transplant
I asked the question at the transplant clinic as I have been in contact with someone with chicken pox.
I was told if you have had close contact they would consider anti virals. To get infected you do need very close contact, just being in the same room shouldn't be a problem
We would suggest you discuss this as soon as possible with your own doctors.
Best wishes

Thanks rung them this morning
I have had shingles 4 times its bloody awful. Do you have an appointment? I ask because most GP's are aware that shingles can be extremely dangerous to some people. I was on methotrexate. I drove straight to the Drs and insisted on a script for anti virals. I could feel the burn which is how I knew it was here again. The receptionist had no idea it was so dangerous so I asked for a pen and paper. I then told her to go and show my note to the Dr! I sat in an empty section of the waiting area so as not to infect anyone. Almost immediately the Dr came out of his surgery, He walked over to me script in hand. He even gave me double so I had them if it happened again. The receptionist 's face was a picture lol I suspect she now knows about shingles! The anti virals do work well, but timing is essential. I truly hope your sorted quickly. Hazelx
