Hi folks been on here a while. I dont drink alcohol my liver issues started after micro surgery to remove gallbladder and stones. I was the 1st to have this surgery in northern Ireland. My mum begged me to go for the big surgery but they said id go home nect day i had 4 small kids 1only 8 months.well it seemed to go well despite being in terrible pain i went home next day. Ended up in icu. 2 days later they had removed 30 stones but some scattered into my ducts and left me with chronic pancreatitis and severe liver issues including ascending cholangitis quite often. Anyhow i need 2 teeth out they are very bad and abcessed right down to the root. Ive went to a private dental hospital as waiting list my dentist sent me has 31 months waiting list. On Tuesday past she had froze my mouth and all and then read my notes on computer. She refused to take it out until she spoke to my gp about my liver and some blood test. What has getting teeth out to do with your liver? I Will have stitches. Thaks folks in advance for your help xox

Hi. That's a shockingly long wait to have abcessed teeth to be dealt with. I've been there and it's particularly unpleasant. I suspect they maybe concerned about your blood clotting properly. On rare occaisions extractions can cause heavier bleeding than expected which could be exacerbated if you have an underlying problem. I'm not sure of this but either your dentist or doctor should be able to clarify why. I hope you don't have to wait too long. Good luck.

I’m sure it’s got to do with the bleeding which is sometoan issue with liver problems.

Are you under the care of a liver specialist for your liver/biliary conditions?
It may be a good idea for your dentist to contact the liver specialist to get specific advice about your dental work.
Sometimes people who have liver disease are at an increased risk of bleeding and infection so it is always a good idea to get specific medical guidance.

Yes im under the care of liver consultant. I also see another gastroenterologist for kidney and bowel conditions. My GP emailed the information the same day dentist asked for it. Thank you so much x
Hi,
Do you have any known issues with your bones, like osteoporosis?
Gary
I have severe psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. I also have osteroporosis. Thank you
The reason I asked is because osteoporosis can be associated with liver disease. If you are taking bisphosphonates, either orally or by infusion for your osteoporosis then your dentist will need to be aware of this before carrying out extractions etc. as this can cause nasty, but rare side effects when extractions are carried out on patients receiving bisphosphonate treatment, side effects including localised necrosis of the jaw
Perhaps your dentist has put two and two together i.e the link between liver disease and osteoporosis and wants to double check if it's safe to proceed with the extraction.
Obviously there's the issue about clotting time to be considered too.
But your dentist definitely needs to know about your osteoporosis and any treatment you are on for it.
Best wishes

Hi Allstar. I am now 7 months post transplant. My dentist that I have had now for over 30 years wanted to know all the drugs that I was taking pre and post transplant. As soon as I'd had my transplant she wrote to my transplant hospital with regards to my dental treatment. I had a filling that dropped out twice in the last few months. She put in a temporary filling each time as she didn't want to give me an injection in the gum. Only recently (2 weeks ago) she has done a permanent filling requiring an injection. I think that they have to be very careful when you are post op concerning anything that could affect clotting or cause infection. Best wishes Alf
Hi folks i had the surgery yesterday and even though im in terrible pain it was worth every penny to go private. She had a hell of a job getting the two teeth out. She had to cut my gum and drill some of them out. I have 12 stitches and im in a lot of pain but nothing like i had when i still had the teeth. Thank you all so much for your help and opinions. This is an amazing site, 🤗🤗🤗
Hi Allystar. Poor you! sounds like you've been through the mill. I hope that everything heals really quickly for you. Best wishes Alf
