Can Chrrioss cause Low Iron Leavels?

I have low iron all the time! even when it is normal it is only just! & my ferrin is always a bit Low! Only just had an Iron infustion & yet I feel like I need another one! Having bloods done Tomorrow so will soon find out!

Before my cirrhosis diagnosis I was initially diagnosed with anaemia and put on the two week cancer pathway. It was the haematologist who realised I had liver disease. I was started on iron sulphate and my iron levels improved. However my ferretin is 13 and I don't know what my iron levels are. I rang the liver nurse today and she said my ferretin and iron levels were normal. 13 is at the very bottom of normal so I have started taking iron again today.

From what l can understand there can be more iron in a damaged liver than in a healthy one, but there can also be a drop in iron levels as anaemia can set in: britishlivertrust.org.uk/li...

Hi Abbey,

I have cirrhosis and not only take iron tablet but i have monthly iron infusions too. They suspected that for a while that I may have problems with my bone marrow and or a leak of blood somewhere. I've just had the button camera through me to test for activity in my upper stomach. So far no news. Before the infusions I get very tired / listless, but generally I'm ok.
