Hello fellas,

I hope that you've all been well and are all looking forward to the summer! All good my end. My eyes have improved enormously and liver doing very well. Touch wood, no infections etc which ig great. its months since i received my gift and 18 months in recovery. i must say life is blommin reem! Still attending the gym, started the laborious task of applying for jobs, holiday booked for late June and getting on with amazing thing called living, you gotta love it!

A couple of random questions -

1. Does anyone know post transplant if we are entitled to a NHS exemption certificate?

2. Post transplant are we considered chronic?

I am in clinic at Kings next on Thursday 11 April 2019 at 2.30pm if any of you are around for a coffee?

Would really appreciate a quick message from you all letting me know how you all are and whats bee appening!

Can’t answer as I’m in France. However health wise all’ok. Dad, 89, has been in and out of hôpital since Jan with various elderly infections but now have 2 wonderful live in Carers who take it in turns to look after him now. All I need now is for my weight to shift. Feeling more positive than in a while. Must be the sun!

Glad your doing so well as I am ( 10 months post)also doing gym and yes life is great we are very lucky.

Only reason I get free prescriptions is because I had liver cancer and although I’ve had transplant am still entitled apparently for up to 4 years due to risk of it returning,my wife to be (June) has a pre paid certificate £112 I think but well worth it you can do it on DD aswell

Hi,

Great to hear that you're doing so well.

The prescription issue is an ongoing campaign as what you say is right, being post transplant is a chronic condition - its for life and should be exempt from prescription charges. All cancers, epilepsy, renal dialysis and diabetes are on the list. Taking life saving medication every day to avoid rejection should clearly be included.

Not sure if post transplant would be considered by DWP to be a 'chronic condition.' I imagine this would depend on how your 'activities of daily living' are affected by your health in general and how you are coping with recovery.

In the meantime, an annual payment is a good option, as for £104 per year every prescription is paid for.

The pre paid card is often the cheaper option. However it depends on how many medications one is on and how frequently they're prescribed. I'm on 3 different ones, 2 of which are prescribed every 6 months at the liver clinic and one by the GP every 8 weeks so for me it's cheaper paying individually. Stupidly enough I still picked up a prepayment card a couple of months ago 🤦‍♂️

Great to have you back and posting! Glad to hear that all is good with you. I've been feeling good enough to do a bit of bricking and repair work on my patio wall (in small doses, hour at a time) and actually cut most of our lawn yesterday (1st time in 5 years!!). Great to feel useful again! Life is wonderful! Keep on posting. Great Big Freddy...…..(as PiloMilo often calls me, lol)

It seems weird to me that you don't get a medical exemption certificate. It's my husband with cirhhosis, he pays for his medication. I have an underactive thyroid & have a medical exemption cert so all prescriptions are free no matter what they're for. It doesn't make sense 🤷‍♀️. Glad you're loving life!

Yes same for my wife with underactive thyroid. She questioned it with doctor when she was diagnosed 20 years ago. She thought it unfair that I had had asthma from the age of 10 (badly until I was in my 20's but classed as really mild nowadays) and I'd had to pay for prescriptions from the age of 16 but now after diagnosis of underactive thyroid she would get all prescriptions free. Doctor said that it was all down to a law passed in 1948.

I get free subscriptions for three reasons at least so I haven’t a clue re liver , but surely your immunosuppressants must be free? Surely!
