Hi Tormented
We are sorry no one has responded to this post.
We would suggest that you think about seeing your own doctors who are best placed to advise you and can investigate the cause of your pain.
Take care

HI I also take XIfaxan What do you mean by "zonked"? however never had a side effect. I can tell you that senna may irritate membranes after a while...do you have to live in your bathroom now? wow Sammie
Hi there. Somehow I have been led into older posts, and I came across this one. Senna is a natural vegetable laxative. I've never heard that it can upset your stomach, and I have a very sensitive stomach! Maybe you were taking too much? In any event, it sounds as if your doctor prescribed it, although it is readily available over the counter. All together that is A LOT of medicine to take for constipation. It could be one of the other medications, or the combination! Lactulose alone works more quickly and more... explosively... when you're really jammed up.
Rifaximin can cost $2,000 per month in the United States, so obviously not many people can afford to take it. I was provided with it for a period of 3 weeks when I was in a physical rehab facility after surgery for a broken femur. I was also given very strong painkillers. I believe it was the painkillers that made me constipated. However, I can't be sure. The important thing is to keep on pooping! You might like to read information about hepatic encephalopathy. I'm sure the BLT general site includes some information. You can also search the posts and comments for experiences of other members. They might be entitled simply "HE".
I don’t know if it is normal but my body has reacted in a similar way to Rifamixin. I just feel like stopping all drugs, I’ve had far too many over the years. To help you, may I suggest Movicol. It’s gentle and does the trick, but I don’t take it regularly, only when things are bad.
