Just been diagnosed with hepatitis b, general health very good because iam an athlete and ultrasound shows normal size liver with coasre internal echo pattern, decreased echogenicity. All other organs are normal sized and normal functionality. But my fibroscan showed 17.1kpa and 267cab/dm.My LFTs show normal total protein, afp 18(h),Alp 86,Ast 71,albumin 41, globulin 40,bilirubin 25(h), bilirubin unconjugated 25(h),bilirubin conjugated 4, gamma gt 4,alkaline phosphatase 87.

Serological examination states suggestive of hepatitis b infection.

The news isn't all bad. Provided you have a healthy immune system (being an athlete yours should be healthy) you should be free of the virus in six months time & protected from getting it again for the rest of your life. It might be better not to train heavily until the virus has been completely eliminated & your body has formed protective antibodies. Look after yourself by eating healthily & getting plenty of rest to help your body resolve the problem.

Dr. Melissa Palmer's Guide To Hepatitis and Liver Disease:

"After the diagnosis of acute hepatitis B has been made, the doctor will want to see the patient several times over the course of the next few months in order to check on the status of the infection. Six months after the patient has been infected, the doctor will determine if the body has shaken off hepatitis B entirely. Approximately 95 to 99 percent of adults have an immune system strong enough to battle the virus and completely eliminate it from the body. In most cases an adult can eliminate this virus six months from the time of infection, but occasionally (although rarely) it may take up to a year. When elimination of the virus is accomplished, LFT elevations completely normalize, and symptoms, if they were present, totally resolve. Protective antibodies, hepatitis surface antibody (HBsAb), usually will have been formed against HBV. Congratulations are in order. These fortunate people will never have to worry about HBV again, as they are now immune to this virus."

Hi Tawy35,

We ask that followers do not post test results for what could appear to be a request for medical advice.

This forum is here to share experiences and provide support to each other and we would advise against posting any test results or asking for specific medical advice. This is not a medical forum and should not be used to try and make diagnoses or replace advice from your own medical practitioners who have a much wider view of your health and test results.

The British Liver Trust asks that users do NOT post any test results or ask for specific comment on such. Test results vary according to both the individual’s whole health and the laboratory analysing the results and should therefore always be interpreted by the user’s own doctors.

There is a link below to the British Liver Trust website with specific information about Hepatitis B. The website also contains a large body of information about liver disease in general and links to other reputable resources.

For personal support, The British Liver Trust Helpline is there for anyone affected by a liver condition. Call 0800 652 7330 between 10am and 3pm Monday to Friday (not bank holidays) or email helpline@britishlivertrust.org.uk (emails can be sent at any time and are answered during helpline hours).

Many thanks for your ongoing support and understanding.
