Hi all,

Still losing weight even though I'm eating.. lost almost 3 stone in about 3 months.. i'm currently 16 stone 4lbs, I am concerned I am losing weight too quickly & muscle is lost too. My question is does anyone know who would be the person to prescribe a supplement drink like Ensure, would it be my gastro consultant or would it be a dietitian? Still waiting to see my consultant and haven't been referred to dietitian yet.

It might be worth asking your gp for a prescription if you haven't got any appointments with the dietician and gastroenterologist. I'd ring the surgery on Monday and ask. If you look on Amazon they sell it. It's quite pricey though.Good luck. Deb

I have fortisip 4 times a day. Prescribed by the dietician at the hospital where I had tp. I lost 3 stones but now stable 😁

The year prior to my hubby's transplant he lost a lot of weight brought on by his condition being made worse by pneumonia which led to ecoli & sepis.. Made his liver function worse

His dietitian told him that to help stablize his weight he had to feed his liver before feeding himself

This meant that he had to have a high fat, protein & carb snack inbetween each meal & just before going to bed

So in the afternoon between meals he might eat a jacket spud with beans or a Chicago town mini pizza or chicken nuggets, sausage roll just before bed he was encouraged to eat cake. The idea behind it is that it will keep the liver from using your muscle mass to keep going & to help with the fatigue caused by the condition

He had ensure in the hospital & was only given a supply for a month when discharged

How tall are you if you don't mind me asking? 16st 4lbs sounds quite hefty?

What is your bmi?

My dietician recently suggested skimmed milk powder, full of protein, and a couple of teaspoons can be added to anything milky really (in addition to the actual milk). Add it to tea, Coffee, porridge, mashed potato, or even just add it to a glass of milk to fortify it.

Marvel is quite expensive but supermarkets do their own brands for considerably less.
