This is a really cool forum. I must say, very informative. My heart aches for all the people in here with Liver complications. I am sort of a hypochondriac with my health. That being said, I have had more than my share of alcohol. I had my gall bladder out at the end of March and have had pains in my right side lower quadrant that have me freaking out a bit. I had an MRI in the ER pre Gallbladder Liver was so called normal. The pain isn’t bad but it wasn’t ther before so WTH? I did have an ultrasound too. Looking back though, through my records It appears, NAFLD has been in my life for at least 15 yrs. I have been eating right and losing weight for the last 5 months and cut way back on the booze. I haven’t had a drink in a week ,and intend to quit after all the stories in here. Seems as if the testing is not super reliable until it’s too late. My LFTs’ are almost normal except my AST was a few points higher than the guidelines. We don’t have many of the Fibroscans here in the states. Any advice on getting to the bottom of my rib pain would be welcomed 😀Cheers
Wow!: This is a really cool forum. I... - British Liver Trust
Wow!
Hi, welcome ☺
It could just be post op pain?
Pain in the upper right quadrant could indicate a problem with the liver (there are no pain receptors in the liver itself but the case that surrounds the liver can cause pain, if it is stretched due to liver imflamation) and imflamation can also cause referred pain all over the place!
Lower right quadrant pain though could be where your gallbladder was removed?
Course none of us are medically qualified to give a diagnosis? Best to get a professional opinion if you are worried.
Hope you find this place as friendly, informative, and helpful as I have.

Thanks for the info. Seems like my Dr. is like most. They won’t do additional tests unless your eyes are yellow or you have more serious issues. I simply am on a quest to find out what’s causing the pain. I’m grateful the pain is off and on and not too bad but after reading stuff in here and elsewhere, kinda makes you paranoid. If yourLFTs aren’t bad and your Ultra sound is ok, That’s good enough for them. Most seem to have normal LFT’s and still have big time liver problems. What good are those blood tests if they can’t detect liver disease? My pain is in the lower area where my Gall bladder was. My pain is a bit worse if I drink alcohol.
Thanks again😀
Hi and welcome casino (royale?)
I used to have pain in my lower to middle right side. I found that having Vimto (my childish abbreviation for anything alcoholic) - lots of it - removed the pain. What a PRATT - I was. I found out I was being a PRATT too late to save my liver.
I agree with Gary so get yourself to doctors/hospital/consultants sooner rather than later. Its better now than never.
PS I had loads of ultra sound scans but it wan’t until I had a CT scan that they found the culprit (well I was the real culprit but you know....) a thrombosis in the Portal Vein.
Good luck, go for it 😁 ( the doctors I mean of course)

Thank you Miles😀
I had gall bladder out and it caused a long adhesion like a finger from my gall bladder area to the scope entry site, which later caused pain when I exercised. They did an adhesion op and it is now fine.
Hi Julie8,
What is an adhesion? I did have an MRI and an ultrasound ,when my Gallbladder was inflamed back in March. I have complained to the DR. About the pain so, he did more LFT’s and another Ultra sound and the results were fine so, I don’t think he will let me do a post op MRI since my pain isn’t bad. I think he is chalking it up to PCS or Phantom pain ,or perhaps NAFLD. I guess I will just keep working on my diet ,exercise and not drinking. Thank you😀
