Capsule endoscopy patency test

My consultant has referred me for a capsule endoscopy but because there are adhesions and a resolving blockage in the bowel I have to swallow a patency capsule in case it gets stuck in the bowel. I was booked in for the 31st Oct for a pre op. I rang the endoscopy suite to ask what it involved and she asked if I could go in tomorrow for it!!! Apparently I will swollow the patency capsule then on Thursday I will have to have an xray to make sure it's not stuck 😵 If it has made it out I will go on monday for the real deal. I was ok with this till she told me that I will have to take the bowel prep again. I am quite tough and have been fine with various needles, operations etc. (I've even taken my own stitches out) but I turn into a big baby if something tastes nasty 😭 The last time I had to have a glass of juice to hand and an ice lolly...pathetic!

I sympathize with you because I am being screened for a bowel problem too. I was up the hospital only yesterday having a TC scan with contrast.

After a visit to A&E an x-ray taken showed looping of my bowel and an enlarged heart. The comments questioned a blockage or a rupture ! 😧

I dont blame you having an ice lolly and juice at hand that prep is horrid. 😜

I'm booked in to see the Gi and liver specialist next month because I have an enlarged liver. I do hope you get on ok and manage to get this capsule thing down without gagging. I shall be thinking of you.

Let us know how you get on. 😘

Hi, I'm too up for a capsule endoscopy shortly. Like you I hate the gunk they use to clear you out. It's good to know what the procedure is though. I'll keep my fingers crossed for yours. all the very best.

Hi jilly, it sounds like you're having a nightmare time. It must have been a terrible shock to be told that your heart is enlarged. I was diagnosed with SVT before all this other stuff came to light. I was offered ablation of my heart which I politely declined 😳. It's true what they say getting older aint for sissies. Take care. Deb

Hi
