Gastroenterologists referral

I have been referred following an appointment today where the Dr said he didn’t know what was causing my right upper quadrant pain.

My liver blood tests x2 and ultrasound have all been fine but the pain is not going away.

Luckily I have private health care so hopefully won’t have to wait too long but I am really panicking now that this is going to be v bad news and I have destroyed my liver :-(

The ultrsound came out fine. That's a good sign. If you had cirrhosis it is quite likely that it would have shown up there. If you have been drinking too much you could have some irritation to the lining around your liver. You should maybe consider this your warning sign to take more excellent care of yourself. I gave up drinking when I was diagnosed with primary billiary cirrhosis...I was bummed about that for a while but now I find after more than a year that I really like not drinking. Anyway, if you don't stop drinking entirely then you better start sticking to the quantities in the guidlines of the British Liver Trust. Good luck to you..and consider yourself very fortunate to have been given a warning!

Thanks Pam, really appreciate you taking the time to reply.

Do you think I probably don’t have cirrhosis or severe liver damage? I don’t have any other notable symptoms and I exercise every day and eat a good-ish diet.

I am fine with not drinking, maybe an occasional wine at a wedding, but I don’t want to not be able to work or provide for my family.

I am terrified I’ve screwed up big time

I had an ultrasound after having raised liver function tests. The ultrasound said I had cirrhosis. I had a biopsy and it came back stage 3 fibrosis. So I am inclined to think if you had damage it most likely would haave shown up on the ultrsound. My liver disease is a result of an autoimmune disease and not from drinking but the wine I drank probably didn't help my situation. If you had liver function test and they were in the normal range and along with the ultrsound my guess is you are okay...but I am not a doctor.

I've had an uncomfortable feeling in the same area on and off for at least 10 years. Had ultra sound etc.. showed nothing i've asked my GP about it and he couldn't say. So i've taken blood tests to see if there is elevated liver enzymes?? Is it constipation...could be? Not sure ..and its not pain just uncomfortable.

Hiya, thank you so much for replying. I read a few of your other posts and it sounds like you are having a really tough time which makes your reply even more special.

You are spot on, it isn’t pain but just an uncomfortable sensation. I wonder whether some of it might also be psychological with me as I worry about how much I drank previously but hopefully the specialist will be able to shed some light.

I hope things get better and easier for you soon and all the best to you and your loved ones x
