Blood results

I was diagnosed about 6 weeks ago with cirrhosis and varices in the spleen. I went for another abdo scan yesterday and parts of it were really sore. The left side where she was checking the spleen and left kidney were particularly bad. I'm going to see my gp next Thursday as he'll have the report by then. I had a scan on the 28th of june but because of my blood results he's a little perplexed.

Serum bilirubin is 30

Serum total protein 86

Serum globulin 45

Serum gamma GT level 57

Platelet count 124

Prothrombin time 15.3

These results are all just outside the norm.

My ALT/SGPT was 21 which is well within the norm.

You really need to be getting seen by a liver specialist, I know this is in the pipeline and it's just a waiting game at the moment.

It is not unusual to have normal or near normal blood results with cirrhosis and your low ALT level probably indicates you have no ongoing inflammation but do have cirrhosis. Pain in your left side especially if it was during an ultrasound scan is probably due to pressing firmly on your enlarged spleen.

My hubby is exactly the same all normal blood results, no ongoing liver inflammation (his diagnosis is cirrhosis due to burned out AIH - his auto immune condition attacked his liver at some point - no one knows when as he never had symptoms - damaged the liver to the degree of cirrhosis and then went inactive). Cirrhosis only coming to light when he presented with a life threatening variceal bleed as previously discussed with you.

I hope they can speed up your referral to hepatologist as you need to be seeing a specialist a.s.a.p.
