Went to the doctors today to confirm I have gallstones. Was wondering if any one has had gallstones how long did it take from seeing your doctor to actually getting the operation. This pain is unbelievable and just want it to do.

The hospital should have waiting time info on their website.

Just looked at my chosen hospital and general surgery wait is 29 weeks.

Avoid fatty food will help. My dad had the old gallstones op on his 40th birthday. The new op is keyhole. My dads went badly wrong but he managed to stop smoking from it. He had it done by trainee surgeons, caught mrsa and had a massive chunk of dead flesh out whilst under no anaesthetic and screaming, it herniated and he had mesh installed twice. He now lacks a navel and is in constant pain. You wont have these issues as its now done with a lot less fuss with keyholes and maybe stones being zapped.

I was sent into hospital by my gp as soon as I told him my symptoms and stayed in for a couple of days. I was told that I would have to wait 6 weeks for the inflammation to go before they could operate. Unfortunately 5 weeks later I developed pancreatitis and they had to operate within a few days.

I had my gallbladder out last year. Total time from diagnosis of gallstones to operation was 2 and a half years. The pain I went thru for that time is undescribable. Don’t know what part of the country you’re from but in Northern Ireland the waiting lists for these operations are ridiculous. I only at the end got put down as an emergency as the stones became trapped in the bile duct. Hope you find that you’ll not have to wait as long as I did. One tip for you when you suffer a gallstone attack is to drink a glass of pure apple juice mixed with 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Tastes disgusting but within 10 minutes of taking, your pain should begin to subside. Was the only thing that helped me. Hope you get sorted soon. I’ve had my gallbladder out just over a year now and it’s been great. Have had no bother since.

I have suffered on and off for 2 years I can go a few months and be fine but then I will get bad stomach pains and start vomiting my gp sent me for a scan and discovered that I have multiple stones so referred me to hospital I went at the start of the year just before lockdown and was told I need it removing but because of covid-19 that got postponed I finally had a call on Monday to say I'm booked in to have it removed on 20th October and I cannot wait to have it removed then hopefully I should be pain and vomit free !
