What country are you in? The protocol in the UK for monitoring someone with advanced cirrhosis is for minimum 6 monthly ultrasounds and blood tests to check all liver & kidney function numbers and to check for changes with the liver and for presence of ascites. Most folks see a liver specialist or at least a gastroenterologist and are monitored.
Diuretics for someone with advanced liver disease are normally to reduce fluid build up in the form of ascites and oedema but their usage should be monitored as like you say some of them can have quite severe affects on the kidneys.
What is the cause of you wife's illness? Has this been dealt with through either treatment or adjustment to lifestyle? What are the prospects for transplant where you are? Whilst you say she was diagnosed as having decompensated cirrhosis is this still the case or has she stabilised and hence the ok blood test results.
Sorry to ask so many questions all at once but a fuller picture might help people share their experiences, however, ultimately this is a medical question which non of us are qualifed or able to diagnose from a few lines on a computer screen. Doctors need to check out what is going on and if your wife doesn't urinate at all if not taking diuretics then something is going on with either the kidneys, bladder or other part of the urinary tract.
hi kate problem is with my wife. doctors are blood test every 6 mths.and scans . we been told there high risk liver cancer..but at moment its ok . but she got sickle cell anemia..got back problem . on top that she cant seem eat lot.. she iv tranfusion every few months.. she had endoscopy done . colonoscopy done . had pill camera
out come is might have Crohn's disease ..very strange situation.. god bless
Is your wife being treated at one of the main liver units / liver transplant units? As understand from a very quick cursory look at the internet liver and other organ failure issues are common in sickle cell disease. If her local team arn't getting to grips with it then she needs to be referred to one of the more expert hospitals.
If you arn't already attending one of the transplant centres then ask the question politely about referral, even ask in writing if she can be referred. She needs to be seeing the best doctors possible.
hi again she is seen by liver consultant..at royal london.. to honest at one time we were told.. chances are that she would not survive . transplant.. even if she did . she will be more ill. then what she is.. another problem .is she underlying problem. which make it complex. situation..
