Doctors sometimes miss the mark,!

Would really like to know why my ast/alt levels are so low. They went from 22/23 to 12/15 I know that there is a liver issue but doctors just keep overlooking it because the numbers are not high. I have had issues with my liver for a couple of years now but it's like you have to be almost dead before they will send you to a hepatologist . It's hard to deal with alone no one understands what I go through because I don't tell them .

Thanks to whomever may read this and answer

Hi Katanya

Welcome back to the forum.

You say that the doctors (“no one”) understands because you don’t tell them what you’re going through. My feelings are that if you don’t tell a doctor everything you’re experiencing then how can they possibly draw the right conclusions?

Really think you need to be totally open with them even if it is hard for you to do that - I know it was hard for me but it was the only way it really hit home and got me some attention in the early days. Once they’ve got their focus on you it’s all good - attention wise I mean. That’s what happens in the UK - I hope it’s the same in the USA 🤞 (putting aside the current crisis of course 😕)

Good luck and just speak out!

Miles

Thank you so much for your reply! And yes there are a lot of things I keep froy family, but I'm going to be more open with them. Some of the doctors here in the US honestly don't care as they should especially if you don't have a load of money. Ive been to several doctors asking why my ast/alt levels are off and they basically just say they don't worry unless they are elevated. They are never really concerned enough I think I'm in early stages of future liver issues. I will keep trying though until I really get their attention! Thanks again 😊

You’re very welcome...I do hope you can get someone - doctor - to take you seriously.

Hi,

We are sorry to read that you are not satisfied with your hepatology care.

In the UK we have a system called The Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS they) offer confidential advice, support and information on health-related matters. They provide a point of contact for patients, their families and their carers.

Hopefully you will have a similar service in the USA you can contact.

Very best wishes
