Mr JA. I have been told that a ct scan reveals I have a blood clot on my liver. However a endoscope examination reveals that I do not have portal hypertension or varices. What am i to make of this?

Hi, I had a blood clot in my liver too. It’s called Budd Chiari. It is a very rare condition. I had acute Budd Chiari and I had a stent placed in my liver, called TIPPS procedure. I had this procedure almost 6 years ago. There are other procedures that can be performed too, your consultant should discuss all of your options. Hope this has helped. X
Thanks Neph. I had an endoscopy done by the consultant himself after this showed up on a ct scan. When the endoscopy revealed nothing untoward he simply said there were many possible causes for such clots and as a long shot cancer, but unlikely. I am one of those people who looks for fuller explanations than this but none are forthcoming.
A worrying time for you at the moment. Did the consultant say what tests/steps they are taking next? The fact that the endoscopy didn’t show anything untoward is a good sign. What hospital are you under?
Thanks Neph, Glasgow Gartnavel. Blood tests normal range; liver functioning normally. Despite never having smoked picked up an early stage lung cancer which has been "cured" by radiotherapy. Also have a low grade non Hodgkins lymphoma, not requiring intervention and an enlarged prostate which is being monitored. Apart from that I am fine.Lol However I am an 84 year old and I think that is informing the medics to limit intervention.
I’m so sorry to hear you are going through all of that. It sounds like you’re doing an amazing job at fighting all of this. Perhaps the blood clot could be related to the lymphoma? It sounds like the hospital are trying to find the cause. I will be thinking of you. Please let me know how you get on.
