I was symptom-free and my problems were picked up from blood tests done for a medical. I knew, because of my drinking, that my liver might be a bit ropey. But since I have been reading posts on this site I am getting all sorts of symptoms. I have been referred to a gastroenterologist but can't get an appointment. My GP didn't even know what a fibroscan was. Feeling a bit lost. I think some of my symptoms are psychosomatic but some must be real. I have seen a hepatologist and he was a truly horrible, sexist pig which is why I asked to be referred to my local hospital instead.

I’m so sorry your hepatologist was horrible. For the liver it really is him who can tell you if you have a problem. Did he give you a diagnosis?
I have not heard from the hospital. I had a follow up appointment with a nurse some weeks later but there was a serious language barrier. Again, no letter. I really don’t know what is going on. Spoke to another GP at my surgery this morning and he has promised do what he can. Still can’t get a gastroenterologist appointment. Have left a message. I console myself that it can’t be that bad if I am not being seen. Eternal optimist, me!!
Language barrier? Where are you? You are prob right that no news is good news but let’s hope GP can get reliable answers. The surgery should receive a letter from specialist.
I was at Addenbrookes in Cambridgeshire! Honestly, it was hard work. She was probably very knowledgeable but unable to communicate it and certainly didn’t have a clue as to what I was trying to explain! When I got there the nurses (lovely ladies) had only been told to do my SATS. So I am sort of baffled. I was a bit pathetic and didn’t push it. That well known ‘white coat syndrome’. Such a wuss.
This sounds very unusual, I’ve been a patient at addenbrookes for 3 years am assuming you went to clinic 12? and I’ve probably seen every consultant and nurse there and can’t speak highly enough of them I would urge you to contact the clinic and ask for a break down if there findings if of course any .
Best of luck
Huw
Sorry, Huw, but guessing you are male! Consultant was rude about my appearance. I have a deformity in my hands which I am not normally sensitive about but he was horrible. He turned the screen away from me and didn’t explain my results. He wanted to speak to my husband. Why? Yes, clinic 12. The nurses were great. The fibroscan person was great. I suffer from anxiety so can’t get there unless someone can take me. Defaulting to Hinchingbrooke. And my husband died in Addenbrookes at the age of 47 so not a happy place.
Sorry, Huw. Not your fault but not mine either. I should have had contact from the hospital by way of letter or something. I found them lacking.
So sorry to hear this yes am male but have had Donna with me at every appt and they spoke on quite a few occasions directly to her as bad news would often put me in no fit state to take in what they were saying. To make you feel uneasy about your appearance is unforgivable and you should complain and ask to speak to another consultant my journey started at hinchingbrooke hosp in Huntingdon but I was referred to addenbrookes from there
I certainly know what you mean about not taking anything in at the time of the news. I am currently waiting for the results of a mammogram so my head is all over the place.
