Hep c and p.i.p.

I have had hep c since 1979. I have applied for d.l.a. 2 times and being rejected twice and now I've just read on this site that hep c is a recognised disability for the purposes of d.l.a. or p.i.p. why are they refusing me p.i.p. after all I've had it for 37 years.

No condition automatically gives you an award of PIP - there used to be conditions that did with DLA I think but PIP is awarded dependent on how your long term illness or disability actually affects you either day to day or with your mobility and what help you need to help you manage the different descriptors. When filling in the 'How your disability affects you' form explaining what it is about your condition that makes any or all of the different tasks difficult.

My husband has cirrhosis with symptoms of HE and at the time of first face to face assessment was on the point of listing for transplant and he scored zero. We appealed all the way through to tribunal and he was awarded enhanced daily living on appeal.

On renewal he was upgraded to basic rate mobility on top of his enhanced daily living and this has recently been extended again. He stuggles with daily living due to chronic fatigue, requiring day time rests, he struggles with communication, concentration, no longer drives and can't travel alone, he struggles with reading and comprehension and a great many other issues all to do with his diagnosis and his treatment. He can't complete his own paperwork and I have to do this and I always use the help of guides on an excellent web page called Benefits & Work. Other people utilise the services of Citizen's Advice Bureau to help with proper completion of paper work. You also need to provide supporting medical evidence to demonstrate why your illness does require you to need help day to day or with mobility issues.
