I used to weigh 66kg last December

Now I weigh 101kg. Mostly on my stomach but nothing to drain. I eat and exercise the same. Does anyone have any ideas why I have almost doubled my weight in 3 months?

Cheers,

Brett

That's really odd. Have you seen your doctor about it?

Hi

Red meat is a big no no Look on the British liver trust website for more information. They give you lots of advice.

I'm the same, all consultant says is exercise which I do even though it hurts like mad cos of fibromyalgia and capsulitis (inflammation in my toe joints) and also portion control, my husband or sons usually end up finishing mine off cos I soon feel full and bloated. I hope you get sorted soon.

Take care

Lynne

Thanks Lynne,

I can’t remember the last time I had red meat. I’ve also got a hernia on my stomach which doesn’t help things.

I would go back to my GP and ask for an endoscopy, abdominal ultrasound etc just to rule anything out, feeling full and bloated quickly needs investigating. Good Luck x

Had an endoscopy on Friday. Just the usual grade 1 oesophageal varices and oesophageal scarring. And a camera up my bottom also lol. No drama there phew!!

Hi Brett

I have Nash but had the same problem as yourself turns out that I had Cushings nothing to do with my liver get your doctor to test you with a 24 hour wee test that will measure your cortisol levels as this will give them an idea if you may have it. Let’s hope not as I’ve had a nightmare with it horrible disease. Good luck 😉

Hi Brett, did you ever get an answer as to why your weight was increasing despite maintaining a good diet and exercise?

No! Nothing! My weight has been steady at 94 kg the last few months though. It’s hard to get answers from my doctor.

Do you mean your doctor doesn't know or is reluctant to explain things to you? Aside from the hernia, did you notice the weight going on in specific areas or just your stomach? Sorry to be nosey, but my weight is creeping up slightly and I only have a small amount of ascites, so just wondered what you had been told. The thought of increasing in weight by that much is too distressing to think about. Sorry!

I was told my “ideal weight “ should be 95 kg.

They said it was good that my weight was increasing as it would help if I needed surgery in the future as the extra weight would make it easier for my body to heal. I did ask why did it go from 68 kg to 107 kg and they didn’t know. It also went from 107 kg to 94 kg within a month. I’ve not had any ascites for over a year now. Well, I do four major pee pees every morning after my frusemide. I can tell ascites pee pee from normal wee wee.

The weight gain and loss was from all over my body. The transgender hernia didn’t get smaller or bigger over that period. Although now it has but it does not contribute to my weight in any way.

Rapid weight loss is also a sign of cancer but none of my doctors ran any tests.

Only just seen your reply. Thanks so much for your detailed response. 66kg does seem slight for a bloke, so I can see why they recommended increasing your weight. Ascites pee is different, well you learn something all the time. ( my auto correct tried to suggest excited pee!)

Good luck with Bertha/Bob. 😊

Ascites pee looks just like tap water and builds up in

My bladder very quickly. Normal pee pee is slightly yellow and I only do a couple of them a day.

Thanks for that, very helpful to know :)
